G. Do you think that the lifestyle of the inhabitants of your town or city reflects behavior that is in line with the concept of sustainable

development?

Organizations are what their conversations are about, you can´t change the mind of a company unless you change the conversations… if I take this concept and apply it to my city then ….what do we talk about? Do we talk about sustainable development?

I realized most of the conversations I was having with my coworkers were about today´s news, so I followed four newspapers for 5 days. In a way they represent our conversations. I wanted to see if we were talking about sustainable development.

12% of the news on their digital edition had something to do with what I consider sustainable development

Only 18% of the news were about my city (either Medellin or Bogota)

My takeaways

• Our conversation as a city revolves around what happens in the country. The good news is that when we talk about the city sustainable development emerges more often

• The best ratio of sustainable development related news came from a economy focus newspaper

• Newspapers shape the conversations, they have a big responsibility on promoting sustainable development and giving this type of news a better position, most of the news were located in the last corner of the web page

• We need to change the conversation in my city and we have grounds to do so, our lifestyle does not reflect behavior in line with sustainable development but there are things happening and they need to get more publicity so we can believe they happen and they can be come the way to do things, the rule not the exception.
