Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
I used Slideshare to upload Word documents, Prezi’s and also PowerPoints to my blog. This was a good way of presenting my work. I have used this before so I knew how to upload work quickly and efficiently.
Adobe Audition was another new programme to me. I used this programme to edit my music ‘My Favourite Things’. I learned how to change the pitch and slow it down so that it appears creepy and childlike. It was a fairly simple programme to use and I will use it again in the future.
I used YouTube to upload my film, research other horror movies and gather ideas about what effects and edits to use in my film.
I used Google Chrome on a day to day basis to research other horror films so I could keep comparing to my own. I like Google Chrome as it is a fast web browser where I can find information quickly without any disturbances.
I used Blogger to present all my work throughout the production of my film. I was familiar to Blogger however I learned how to change the layout and add in different styles to make my blog more exciting.
Adobe After Effects was a brand new programme to me. I used this programme to create my title ‘Absent Presence’. I learnt how to add smokey red effects, manipulate the colour, contrast and brightness. I also learnt how to make the writing and smoke appear as if it is moving across the screen using time lapsing.
Premier Pro was essential in constructing my film opening. I have used Premier Pro before so I was familiar with the programme however, whilst editing my film I discovered new effects and transitions that I had not previously used. These new effects allowed me to have the best horror effect possible in my film opening.
As well as using technologies online I also used technologies in ‘real life’. For example I used:
Camera: Canon 600d, to film on. This camera allows a high resolution picture to be available and has multiple setting that will be useful, such as night time setting
Tripod: Velbon DV7000, to keep camera steady. This tripod will be good as it is very steady and has many functions to smoothly rotate the camera with no juddering
SD card: 16gb SanDisk, to store and transfer footage. The 16gb memory card will be enough to store all my footage on
I also used Outlook to stay in touch with the teacher. I could attach work to send and receive feedback and I could also ask for help on anything I got stuck on. I have been using Outlook for many years and therefore found it highly useful to communicate with others quickly and efficiently.
I used many word documents to analyse various pieces of work, right essay style responses in pre-production and create other various pieces of work. Word is not new to me however it is very useful when creating new pieces of work.
I used PowerPoint during my evaluation to answer question 2. This was not a new technology to me however it was a nice way of presenting one of my evaluation questions.
I used Prezi’s to present my work in my evaluation and pre- production. I learned how to use this technology 2 years ago however over the years and especially whilst creating this product I have developed my skills and learned how to use new layouts, add images edit the boxes and paths etc…
During my pre-production I used a website called customsouthparks.com where I created avatars to show what my target audience would be. This was another new technology to me where I found it highly helpful as it is a very easy way of showing target audience members.
