Question 4WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

Page 2: Question 4

My Audience

The audience for my media product is males and females around the age of 16-34. I decided to aim my magazine at more of a female audience as the model I used was of a young, similar age to my target audience and female therefore the female audience will be able to relate to her more than a male audience. Majority of my audience are students (75%) therefore, magazine is an affordable price with contents that attracts and interests them. Their interests are things such as fashion, social media, trends, concerts, money, photography, football etc. and I used some of these in my plugs on my front cover to draw them in and capture their attention. Due to the more sophisticated genre my target audience would be in the ABC1 than C2DE therefore they would expect a more professional, mature and stylish looking magazine cover/contens and DPS.

Age

Results I collected from my ‘Survey Monkey’ showed that the average age of people who answered my survey was 19 This is also in the general age range for people who are interested in R&B.

I based the advertisements and feature headlines around the interests of approximately a 19 year old.

The advertisements in the plugs I used also relate tomusic. I also found from my results that streaming musicis very popular with young adults therefore believed it iseffective to advertise free trial for Spotify. This also widens my audience as Spotify supply a diversity of music genres.

For my specific age of my target audience I had to ensure that myoverall look of my magazine designs didn’t look too ‘childish’ but also not too boring. Therefore, I used the results from my survey to base my design such as colour scheme, layout (busy/simple) etc.

The age of my target audience also means they will be interested in free gifts/competitions as majority will be students therefore on a strict budget so any free gifts or opportunities would attract them, therefore this is why I chose to advertise Beats headphones as they are an expensive but desired item by most students.

Gender

The majority of people who answered my ‘Survey Monkey’ questionnaire were female. From further research I found that R&B listeners/consumers are also gender bias with females showing more of an interest. This meant my magazine look had to appeal to more of a female audience however to attract the male gender as well.

Colours associated with R&B such as red, black, white, grey aren’t associated with any particular gender therefore I believed it was effective to used these colours throughout my own designs.

I used a female model as the female audience usually desire to be like the artist on the front cover of a magazine. Therefore, the female model attracts the female audience for desirable reasons whereas it attracts the male audience also because of the appealing image. As I airbrushed my model this made her appear more flawless and ‘perfect’ drawing my audience in.

Music Listened To

The amount my target audience listens to music in a week varies a lot, therefore my magazine with the ‘50 top hits’ will attract everyone as those who listen regularly would want to know what the top songs are and those who listen to R&B music less often will want to keep up with what songs are trending at that moment.

Busy/Simple Design

This was an important question on understand and choosing my target audience. The majority of people answered that they would prefer a simple design cover/contents and DPS. This indicated to m that my target audience was more sophisticated than those of Pop magazine for example.

My audience have a mature manner therefore want to consume products that look stylish rather than busy and child-like.

Interests

My audience have several different interests however I used the most common ones in the contents of my magazine to attract them to it.

Interests include things such as; football, gaming, fashion, concerts. This would allow my to continue including elements of these interests in my magazine designs and contents to make them interested in my magazine consistently.
