QUESTION 3:WHAT KIND OF

MEDIA INSTITUTION

MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT

AND WHY?

Page 2: Question 3

INITIAL PUBLISHER For my magazine proposal, I had

intended to use Towsquare Media to be my publisher as they are the current publisher for XXL magazine (they have been publishing for XXL for 17 years). I thought that this was an ideal publisher as they could have given my magazine the same success rate as XXL. But due to feedback from my peers, I found that Townsquare Media not be ideal for me as, XXL Magazine and Beat magazine share the same musical genre, which means that I would be practically competing with my myself, as there is no gap in the market for my magazine with this publisher. Therefore I have decided changed to change my publisher.

INTENDED PUBLISHERThe publisher I will now use is “Time

Inc. Publications”. I believe this would be an ideal publisher for Beat magazine, as this publisher specialises with technology. Therefore, it would be beneficial for my magazine as I believe their publishing will stretch and promote my brand. Time Inc is also one of the worlds leading media companies, with over 130 million consumers.

However, I am aware that Time Inc publishes for NME magazine, but there is still a massive gap in the market for a music magazine of my chosen musical genre, as they do not have a magazine of this genre.

DISTRIBUTIONAs Time Inc uses a lot of

technology, the distribute a lot of their published products/brands electronically. Postal/electronic subscription is very useful as it forms a good relationship between the publisher and the reader. Electronic subscription makes it very easy for the reader to access my magazine through their phones, kindles (fire) and tablets/iPads. Time Inc also takes full advantage of social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, ETC. This will allow my magazine to reach out to a wider and younger audience.

WHERE WILL MY MAGAZINE BE SOLD?My magazine would be sold in different

shops like Tesco, WHSmiths, Supermarkets, Corner Shops, etc. I have decided that my Magazine would be sold by a sale or return method, as it would be easy to see the trends within my sales. It also give me an insight on what works with my magazine and what doesn’t work, allowing me to improve my magazine by every issue. But I believe that my magazine would be successful due to its content and the publishing of Time Inc.
