How does your media product represent

particular social groups?

How I have posed dressed my actors

In my film opening I dressed my Characters in typical clothing for middle class people in this day and age.

The reason why I dressed them like this is because my target audience are teenage girls and this is the way they are likely to dress. I also dressed them in this way as I wanted my characters to come across as young adults and middle class rather than upper or lower class.

Props I also made use of props in order to represent my particular social

group.

The main props in which I used in order to represent the young middle class is the wine bottle and pills.

This helps to represent the social group as it shows that the relationship meant a lot to her and she now cannot cope as something has gone wrong which is similar with all young couples. It also shows how she can afford to buy the alcohol.

Setting The setting in which I used in my film opening also help to

represent my chosen social class, young middle class.

The two main locations I used was the beach and the arcade. This helps to show the social class in which my characters are in as it shows that they are young but also that they have a disposable income in order to go out.

I also used the house as a location showing them doing housework as it emphasis that although they are young they are old enough to be in a serious relationship and have their own house, which again helps to emphasise their social class.

Performance I also directed my actors to perform in a certain way in order to

show how they are middle class.

I got my actors to look happy throughout the first part of my film opening and look happy and comfortable in each others company.

This is because if they were in love they would be happy, and due to their financial situations and lifestyle they are not unhappy.

How my product represents its target audience.

My target audience would be teenagers and young adults.

My Film opening represents the teenage girls and young adults because typically teenage girls are interested in romance.

Also, because my characters are dressed similar to how they are likely to and are of a similar age they are likely to see the characters in my film as themselves.

If my film was a Hollywood Film…

My film opening I have supported dominant ideas about my social group which was middle class young adults.

It supports these ideas because I have dressed my characters appropriately and used a variety and locations, props and performance techniques in order to emphasise this group further.

However, if my film was a Hollywood film I would change my actors so that they were a couple in their mid twenties rather than teenagers as it makes the representation more realistic.
