How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Music video (main product)

To produce my music video I used final cut pro. Prior to making my music video I did research on music videos that already existed in the indie genre. It was important to make sure that my Digipak fitted the theme of ancillary texts (advert and Digipak advert) and vise versa. I used similar images across all my products and also made sure I used the same colour’s throughout.

Theme: trees, eyes and veins

Page 4: Question 2

As you can see from the previous slide I had running symbols throughout the slide.

Eye: This was used so the audience connects with the character. Eyes are known as windows to the soul, they are used to express emotion.

Trees/ veins: I played with the fact that veins look like branches. Trees are associated with forests and forests are associated with loneliness. I wanted the feeling and look of loneliness to run throughout all my media products. Veins also connote illness, this links with alcoholism which is a illness. The theme of alcoholism and abuse are in my music video.

I used running symbols and themes so my products would be more effective together. The running symbols also create a greater brand identity.

Fonts As you can see I used the same fonts on my advert and digpak. This again helps to continue the brand identity and link the two products together.

Colours

I made sure I used the same colour’s throughout. I used black, white and grey as they connote sadness and loneliness.

In my music video however other col0urs were used to portray when the character was happy. This created juxtaposition with the sad scene's that were edited to be black and white.
