Materials:1.Water2.Oil3.Bottle4.Alka-Seltzer Tablet5.Food coloring

Procedure:1. Fill a quarter of the bottle with water2. Fill the rest of the bottle withvegetable oil (almost to the top)3. Add a few drops of food coloring4. Break up two Alka- Seltzer tablets in half and put them inone at a time

**You should wait for the bubbles to stop before adding more tablets

1. Water and Oil separate into 2 layers.2. Water = “water loving” & Oil= “scared of water”.3. Ingredients in Oil make it not attracted

to water– so they separate.4. Oil floats on the top because water is

heavier than oil.

Oil and Water

1. Alka-Seltzer tablets dissolve in water.2. When it dissolves --forms bubbles that floated up to the top.

Drop Alka-Seltzer tablet

Bubbles go to the top bringing some of the colors with it too.

Then the water drops back to the bottomand the water & oil become separated again (into 2 layers).

CONCLUSIONS

We found that water and oil
