Voyeurism

My music video does not use voyeurism as within my narrative I focus more on the story of how Sam & Poppy end up together and not the attractiveness of my actors/actresses. Voyeurism can be seen in music videos like Robin Thick Blurred Lines the performance video where three men dance round three very little clothed woman.

Close Up’s

My music video uses some close up’s so you can bond with the characters in the narrative and also the main artist. Close up’s were used in the performance to create a relationships between the artist and the viewers. Furthermore the mix of different camera shots ranging from close ups to long shots adds diversity and more interest to my video. There was close ups used in the narrative to show how the actors feel and whether they are feeling lonely (at the start of my video) or happy (at the end of my video.) Close up’s were shown heavily in Adele’s music video “Hello” which shows how she is feeling loss in her video.

What influenced me to do close up’s….

I was influenced by other music videos and the create use of close up’s with how well they look to use them within my music video. I particularly like how they were used in films like “Hello” by Adele and show’s her feelings of loss and hurt. Also the use of different types of shots from long to mid to close shot's add variety and therefore makes my video more exciting and interesting to watch.

Lyrics & Visuals

Lyrics and visuals are one of Andrew Goodwin’s conventions and it is used in music videos like Kayne West’s “All Of The Lights”. When lyrics were sung they appeared on screen. I did not use this convention in my video because I felt it did not fit my genre and the lyrics popping up on screen would be irrelevant.

Music & Visuals

In my music video Bones there are different parts where the tempo increases and decreases. When the tempo slows down I use longer shot’s between cuts and when the tempo speeds up usually during the period just before the chorus I speed up the time between the cuts. During the chorus I changed the opticity of my performance filming and the journey of Sam “running” which shows not only the link between music and visuals through the performance but also the link between the lyrics “running through your bones” and him running.

In the music video by the Foo Fighters “the pretender” it also follows the conventions between the music and visuals. At the start of the video the song tempo is very slow and so are the cuts and shots and as the song tempo speeds up the time between the cuts speed up.

Intertextuality

Intertextuality is having links within a piece of media text, in this case a music video, to other things like media texts like comic books and TV series etc. I tried to use intertextuality to interlink my influences which made me want to do this song. The series “How I Met Your Mother” influenced me to do a romantic but yet up beat song but I didn’t really drop in any certain media texts as it was hard to bring in certain TV cultures within a 3 minute music video. My videos performance aspect however was influenced quite a lot my the music video “royals” as the camera shots were a range of close ups to medium close ups.

Star Iconography

Star iconography is shown very predominately within my music video as it is one of the main conventions and I believe it creates a symbol or someone to aspire to for the target audience of teenagers to young adults. I believe throughout my music video, Digi pack and poster have clearly shown the star artist “Brad White” very clearly performing and on the front of the other media products.

I used synergy throughout to continue my star iconography. There is a consistent theme throughout showing the star throughout. Also I have styled the artist in a way to appeal to the audience and is why I have Ray Bands and Converse on the inside of my Digi – Pack relating to teen and young adult culture.Star Iconography is shown through Taylor Swifts video “Shake It Off” as it directly focuses on her and her performance.

Genre

Genre is definitely used in my music video as I followed the pop rock music video forms and conventions along with a heavy influence of indie. I followed a very distinctive pop rock style like Trains video with part performance and part narrative with a very warm feel to the video. Genre is shown through the music video American Idiot by Green Day as it has a very strong rock theme to it. I used certain black and white filters within my video to appeal to some pop rock and indie theme liked used in Monsters Of Men “Little Talks”. Breaking Conventions??

I did not purposely break any conventions. The reason I did this was for breaking conventions purposely is used to show some sort of rebellious nature towards conventions and create your own style in a sense. For example people break conventions like mise en scene to add to things like star iconography and to be more recognised and remembered. Recently deceased legend David Bowie broke conventions and now is remembered as one of the greats. However I felt I did not need to break conventions and just followed genre very closely to create a good music video and Digi pack.
