In what ways does your Media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

We used YouTube for our platform because our target audience uses that the most for a social media site, so I wanted my music video to connect with the chosen target audience straight away and to get our music video out there.

As YouTube gets over a million viewers online I thought it would be a good platform to use and doing research in the music industry, I found out that YouTube is the most popular platform to upload videos daily and the viewers can easily access it and share on other social networks.

Use and develop-Music VideoLocation

Camera Angles Mise En Scene

Artist’s Image The location, Camera angles, Mise En Scene and the Artist’s Image were the main conventions I took from a real music video because they are what a music video features. For example the music videos at and researched, for example One Direction ‘Live While We’re Young’, they didn’t use just one location, So I decided to do more than one to show our genre the adventure our artist goes on. I didn’t include dark locations in this music video because the genre we choose is Indie/Pop so they are interested in sunny/light locations to show feeling and emotion through the light setting.

The artist’s image was a convention from a real music video because for example the indie looking style to match our genre, also the casual looks and movement portrayed by the main character.

The Mise En Scene was an important part of the use and development because we wanted everything to fit in to our genre, for example the props needed to fit in with the locations for example a guitar fitted with a woodland scene because it conveyed the same meaning which was a free and calming atmosphere,

We used YouTube for our platform because our target audience uses that the most for a social media site, so I wanted my music video to connect with the chosen target audience straight away and to get our music video out there. The structure of our music video is

Narrative/Performance because of the research I carried out, it showed that real music videos that have the same genre has mine used both structures to get the audiences attention and that’s what I wanted.

The Audience

As our main character is a typical teenage girl and as the target audience is pointed to that market, I think the main character can be related to the audience as they refer to the artist as a ‘good girl/goddess’, they can relate to this by the conventions we have portrayed.

As for the technical conventions, I think the editing was done well because the audience can easily follow the music video and has and ending that the audience can follow. As it represents the convention of a pop music industry because of the fast past editing when the music is up beat but with out the slow editing shots the whole music video could be classed under Rock genre because it would be fast paste editing al the way threw and we didn’t want to convey that.

In my opinion I think my music video has got a lot of conventions through other real music videos, but I think it is successful because of the conventions that were made to match the genre Indie/Pop, for example the editing and the Mise En Scene that follows the whole way through.

Digi-PakThere was a lot of conventions I Included in the back of the digipak from real Digipaks. For example I kept the house style of colours through out, like the example I am using did as well. I did this because I wanted the audience to see the resemblance between the digipak and the music video as well because the main artist uses the main colour Blue throughout the music video, for example her jeans and jumper. This creates synergy and makes the digipak be connected to the music video.

There’s lots of conventions I didn’t include on the back of the digipak I created, for example the digipaks I researched used neutral backgrounds and they weren’t busy, but I wanted my to look busy so the target audience could see the natural look I was trying to convey, like you can see in the music video with the locations I chose. I did a busy background for the song titles because I wanted the white paper to stand out from the green and I chose the colour green because of the natural surroundings we used in the video and also to show the audience the free and calm feelings that nature shows.
