The title of the magazine

I felt the title of my magazine was very important when considering the type of audience I was trying to attract, it should conform to the conventions of the indie genre in order for it to attract that type of audience. Given that the style of magazine I was trying to capture was NME I decided to go for one of the names with the three letters, so that the audience were aware what style of magazine it is. I thought TMN was a very catchy name, and it could be given it’s full title underneath the logo, so that people knew what it meant.

Mise-en-scene of images

Here are some of the images I used when creating my magazine. I used a female cover artist because the people questioned in my questionnaire suggests it. I feel the picture I used, looks like it belongs on a front cover. The picture on the left was used for the ‘artists opinions’ section on my double page spread and I think the straight ahead and looking straight down the lense makes it look like it would belong there. The photos of the main model I used, was taken with a background unlike the other two and so I feel this adds a point of interest to the readers, I feel the background makes it form to the convention of a real magazine.

PeopleEsther, the main model I used for my front cover and double page, I think in some ways challenges the conventions of a magazine of this genre, although in some ways she does follow the conventions. In the way she’s dressed for the photo shoot, I feel this conforms, her hair and make-up could also be seen to conform, but the attitude on the cover was less visible than would be I feel in a normal magazine of this genre.

I feel that Kieron conforms a little more to the genre in terms of attitude, the way he dresses, also could be seen to conform to the genre in that it is casual, like many artists would be on the cover of NME.

Title and font styleThe title of my magazine is a crucial factor in attracting the right audience. So, I decided to conform to the convention of the genre and emulated the style of title used by NME. Hopefully this will automatically attract the right audience, the clue being it’s similarity to NME.

Here are some of the fonts I used on the cover of my magazine, I decided to use a variety in order to make the writing look more appealing. I feel the fact that I have used a wide variety of fonts on the cover of my magazine, and the fact that the main story heading is so large uses the conventions of real magazines to attract the audience.

This is a section from the contents page, I think the colours and the headings both conform to conventions of other media products.

Written content

• The written content of my magazine completely conforms to the conventions of NME style magazine, I have read many articles in the run up to writing the written content and decided that if my magazine is to work as an ‘indie’ style magazine then, the most important aspect of conforming to this genre is the actual content of the magazine rather than anything else.

Music genre.• The title of my magazine is the main

giveaway of the genre of the magazine, in that it is similar to NME.

• Another thing that suggests the genre of music are the images of the artists and the attitude they have.

• I feel the fonts used throughout also allow readers to realise the genre of music.

Layout

I feel the layout of all the aspects of my magazine, front cover, contents page and the double page spread all very much conform to the conventions of real media products

Contents pages

I very much focused on a contents page from NME magazine when creating my own contents page, and so I feel that it must conform to the conventions of areal media product and does not challenge it in any way. Although, my contents page contains more pictures than that of NME and so it could be seen to develop NME’s style.
