The successful attraction of senior industry figures or individuals with highly sought after skill sets requires an ability to manage the executive search process that is almost “second nature” and there can be no room for error. Every detail from the initial approach to the search, consultant’s interview process and methodology, to the management of the candidate through the client interview process is critical in achieving a successful hire. The approach of Quest Energy is that of attention to detail and persistence at every step of the process.

Headhunt ApproachThe initial “headhunt” approach is also critical in achieving the desired result. A discussion with a senior candidate cannot be “wasted” through the inexperience or poor ability of the search consultant. All initial headhunt calls within Quest Energy are handled by senior consultants / directors; and the preparation of each and every call is vital - candidates are only approached when two important elements are in place:

A clearly defined and succinct overview of the opportunity of “the client” is prepared for presentation to the candidate. Candidates will not be looking and must be presented with an opportunity that entices them to enter further discussion.

A strong reference on the candidate in question. At worst this will ensure that the candidate is of the right profile, at best it will provide a further understanding of the candidates underlying motivations and the “warmth” of contact that will surely gain the candidate’s interest.

InterviewsInterviews are imperative in building the interest level of the candidate and building an understanding of what it will take to move the candidate. A significant part of our interview process is given over to motivational/probing questions which are designed to help show whether a candidate will truthfully move and if so, for what.

Managing the ProcessManaging the candidate throughout the client interview process is where we view the work of a search consultant as only just starting. Keeping the client aware of a candidate’s views, dealing with misconceptions, ensuring the process keeps moving at a suitable pace and managing candidate expectations are all elements that must be taken care of. It is this attention to detail, which Quest Energy believes can be the difference between success and failure in achieving a key hire.

Brokering the Right Offer Brokering the package offering starts from the initial discussion with a candidate and search consultant. Expectations and understandings on both parties is a must with consent, reviewed and challenged throughout the process – waiting until the eleventh hour will not work. Again our experience of managing these situations time and again will be invaluable in maximising the chance of getting the right candidate.
