An IBM licensed program and a decision support utility that can be used to obtain information from the AS/400 database

Can obtain information from any database files that have been defined on the system using OS/400 data description specifications (DDS), interactive data definition utility (IDDU), or the IBM* Structured Query Language/400 (SQL/400*) program

Query/400

Query/400 (contd.)

Can be used to select, arrange, and analyze data stored in one or more database files to produce reports and other data files

The following can be performed using Query/400

Create query definitions and then run them

Run existing queries

Run a default query against a particular database file (using an unnamed query)

Page 7: Query - 400

Query/400 (contd.)

Determine what data the query is to retrieve, the format of the report, and whether it should be displayed, printed, or sent to another database file

Use to obtain information from a single file or a combined set of up to 32 files

Select all the fields, or a few of the fields and organize them so as to appear in the type of output chosen

It is possible to have all records in the files included in the output, or select only a few to be included, using record selection tests

Query/400 (contd.)

To access Query any of the following can be usedUse the Work With Query (WRKQRY)

Select option 3 (Decision support) on the Office Tasks (OFCTSK) menu. From the Decision Support display, select option 2 (Query). This causes the Query menu to appear

Select option 8 (Decision support) on the Office menu. From the Decision Support display, select option 2 (Query). This causes the Query menu to appear

Use the Start Query (STRQRY) command and then use GO QUERY command from the query menu

Query Manager

An IBM licensed program

A collection of tools that can be used to obtain information from the AS/400 database

Used to select, arrange, and analyze information stored in one or more database tables, to produce reports or new tables

Used to create and run query definitions, run existing queries

Query Manager (contd.)

Used to format the way that retrieved query information is presented by creating a report form, and applying it while running a query, let Query Manager format the query information using a simple default report form

Query Manager queries can obtain information from a single table or from as many as 32 table

Query Manager (contd.)

The following can be performedYou can select all the table columns, or only a few of the columns, and organize them for the type of output chosen

You can have all table rows in the output, or you can select only a few to be included, using row selection tests

You can also use report breaks and arithmetic summary functions to include additional information in your report, and make it easier to read

Query Manager (contd.)

You can determine what data the query is to retrieve, the format of the report, and whether the output should be displayed, printed, or sent to another database table

When you send query output to a database table, you can create a new table. You can also create and maintain database tables using Query Manager's prompt-guided tables option

Another way of creating tables is through Query Manager's command window

Query Manager (contd.)

Need to have authority to use the STRQM command before you can use Query Manager

Starting Query ManagerTyping STRQM on any command line

Selecting the Query Manager option from one of the following menus

• Query Utilities menu • SQL Commands menu • Query Commands menu • Start Commands menu

Query Manager (contd.)

ConnectionIf the "Relational database connection" setting in your Query Manager profile is other than *NONE or *CURRENT, you are connected to the specified database before Query Manager starts

If the specified database connection is on a remote system, a display prompts you to enter the user ID and password for the connection
