PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
As we come to the end of April, the finish to this school year is within sight with only seven weeks of regular classes left. It will not only be a busy time but also exciting for our graduating Class of 2013. Our Graduation Committees are working hard in preparation for the Commencement Ceremonies May 27 and the June 28 Dinner Dance/Dry Grad. As part of the requirements for Graduation, our grade 12’s participated in Grad Transitions Interviews sharing their plans for life after high school with community members April 23rd and 24th. Thank you to Ms. Beck and the Careers Department for their efforts in organizing this activity for our Grade 12’s. Please note these are mandatory interviews and failure to complete them will mean loss of eligibility to graduate in June. For further information regarding student completion, please contact the Grad Transitions Coordinator, Ms. Beck. Many of our graduates are busy applying for and receiving scholarships and I am sure there will be many graduates being recognized over the next few months. Any students seeking additional information about options or information on particular post-secondary programs should contact our Counselling and/or Careers Department.
The first formal report cards for second semester were distributed to students in Homeroom April 18 and if parents have any questions or concerns about this report or marks, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers. Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Thursday, April 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 in the large gymnasium.

Principal’s Message Cont……..
Now is the time for students to continue to focus on their schoolwork, continue to strive to do their best, and finish the year with the highest results possible. It is not too late to improve your grades. We suggest that parents take time to carefully review the results of this report with your child and make plans to focus on those areas requiring greater emphasis and improvement as we finish up the semester. As well, Grade 10 students that are experiencing any challenges with Science, English or Math should take advantage of the Exam Preparation Tutorials that will begin in late May.
A course verification printout of the courses students have selected for the next school year was attached to the report card. Any course change requests should be completed by now as work is well underway to build next year’s timetable. The ability for stu-dents to change their selections once the timetable is built is limited. Students in senior grades should ensure they are aware of any post secondary requirements that necessitate completion of particular courses for their programs of choice. Summer school applications are now being accepted at https://www.surreyschools.ca/departments/CEDU/Pages/default.aspx and courses are filling up quickly.
After the Spring Break there have been the following staffing changes. Ms. Janka Kamps accepted a transfer to Fraser Heights Secondary School. We would like to thank her for all her work and service to QE over the years and wish her well at her new school. Welcome Ms. Rochelle Richards and Mr. Neil Doherty as QE’s Safe School Liaisons. Ms. Rani Parmar accepted a District Elementary Counselling position and Ms. Tracey Lane has taken over for her in our ESL Transitions Program. Ms. Steffanie Bazant has joined us in the office as our Student Information clerk. Finally, Ms. Cynthia Weldon will be on a leave for the remainder of the school year and Ms. Alyssa Hogan, a former QE teacher, will be filling in as Acting Vice Principal in her absence.
As we move into the last quarter of the school year, with the sunny spring weather soon upon us, it is important for students to stay focused on being successful in all classes and their studies. I want to encourage students to complete all assignments, to ask for help when needed, and for parents to contact teachers if they have any questions or concerns.

The Grade 8 Boys Rugby Team finished 3rd out of 16 teams in their 7’s Rugby Tournament on Friday, April 5th, 2013 at Elgin Park Secondary. The boys won their first two morning games defeating both Earl Marriott Secondary and the Fraser Valley Falcons. They lost their final round robin game which placed them 2nd overall, giving them an
opportunity to play in the semifinals for the Cup Championship. Injuries plagued the team and unfortunately the boys lost their semifinal game; however, they redeemed themselves beating Elgin in a tough match for 3rd place. All the boys played extremely well and had an amazing time at this tournament. MVP of the tournament went to QE’s Koro K. who scored points in every game, and was clearly the most dominate force on the field. Well done boys!! Your coaches and school are very proud of your hard work, determination and resilience!!
…. can still be purchased at the office or online ($55.00). Don’t be disappointed. Pre-purchase your memories before supplies

The Q.E. Wrestling Team competed in the Provincial Championships at the beginning of March. The Provincials were held in Duncan on Vancouver Island. Wrestlers that qualified to represent Queen Elizabeth at the Provincials included: Fatima D., Trinity M., Jivan D., Rohit T., Suki S., Daman B., Jason B. and Sam S.
Individual top six results included: Rohit T. 4th Suki S. 5th Jason B. 2nd Daman B. 1st
Jason B. wrestled with incredible composure for a grade 9 student as he defeated grade 11 and 12 opponents on his way to the finals. Daman B. dominated his weight class allowing only one point to be scored on him; he was the only wrestler in the tournament to achieve this feat.
When the points from the impressive individual results were tallied the Queen Elizabeth team ended up 7th in the Province. This is the best Queen Elizabeth wrestling team result in history at the Provincial Championships!
Unfortunately we will be loosing the following athletes to graduation this year. I would like to thank the following wrestlers for their involvement this year and wish them best of luck in their future endeavours:
Linda M. Cameron K. Rohit T. Daman B.
With the successful results we have had this year, and the exciting young group of grade 8 and 9 wrestlers we had this year, we look forward to next season. Remember wrestlers: living in Surrey provides many opportunities for you to develop your skills towards becoming elite athletes. Surrey has a couple of wrestling clubs and BC Wrestling hosts a number of camps that are aimed at developing tomorrow’s national team members. For more information contact Mr. Kissinger or go to www.bcwrestling.com

Jason B. also won the FILA trials for grade 9-11 students at the Nationals and this has qualified
