Visitors to the school are not permitted at the present time.

If you need to pick your child up early or drop

something off for your child during the school day,

please call the office at 306-683-7420.

We can meet you at the front doors or

send your child out to meet you.

Thank you for your continued support!

Please remember that all students are expected to go outside for fresh air during recesses on days where the temperature including wind chill is less than ¯27° Celsius. Students should dress according the current weather to ensure they are comfortable while outdoors. If your child cannot go outdoors due to health reasons, please send a signed and dated note to your child’s teacher. Students without a parental note will be expected to spend their recess outdoors.

A Healthy Lunch, as Easy as 1, 2, 3!

Finding creative ways to keep your child excited about lunch can seem

difficult! The good news is that it only takes three easy steps to pack a

lunch that is full of nutritious and delicious foods, exciting and good for

the environment.

1. Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide

Take a look at Canada’s Food Guide. A healthy lunch contains foods

from all of the four food groups. You can get creative with sandwiches

by trying a variety of breads, wraps and rolls. Fill sandwiches with

healthy foods like lean meats, cheeses and vegetables.

Create a lunch checklist:

Vegetable and fruit (choose dark green and orange vegetables

and a fruit for dessert)

Grain product (choose whole grain often)

Milk and alternatives (choose low fat milk)

Meat and alternatives (choose low fat meat)

Healthy beverage (water, milk or fruit juice)

2. A Winning Combination!

Add some excitement to children’s lunches. Use cookie cutters to cut

fun shapes into sandwiches, melons and other healthy foods. Special

notes and stickers are great “treats” rather than the high fat or high

sugar foods. Involve your children in planning and preparing lunches.

3. Trash-less Lunches

A trash-less lunch is not only great for the environment, but it is less

expensive! Here are some tips to pack a trash-less lunch.

Pack sandwiches and other main dishes, fresh fruit and fresh

vegetables in reusable lunch containers.

Pack beverages in reusable drink containers.

FROM THE BOARD TABLEBoard approves calendar; first day of classes Sept. 1

Elementary and high school students will begin the 2021-22 school year on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, according to the school year calendar approved by the Board of Education during its Feb. 9 meeting.

The calendar represents a total of 185 instructional days for elementary students and 182 days for collegiate students, with a minimum of 950 hours of instruction.

The calendar includes a 17-day winter break around Christmas and New Year’s Day, a nine-day break in February that includes the Family Day holiday and a 10-day spring break in conjunction with the Easter long weekend. The final day of classes for students will be June 29, 2022.

Dates for professional development and school operations days at both the elementary and high school level are still to be determined.

Other meeting highlights included:

• Providing online learning opportunities for families has resulted in new approaches by kindergarten teachers to deliver curricular outcomes. Trustees heard during the Celebrating Excellence portion of the meeting that teachers have used live classroom sessions, activities students complete on their own, and inviting online classrooms as some of the approaches to help students learn in their homes.

• Trustees received the annual report of the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation. The foundation is an independent charity dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for students. In 2021-22, the foundation will fund 14 full-day prekindergarten programs and 14 full-day kindergarten programs through its Early Learning Equal Start program.

Reports and information presented at board meetings can be found at saskatoonpublicschools.ca. The next meeting of the Board of Education is Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at 5 p.m. Due to COVID-19 and physical distancing guidelines, members of the public may attend regular board meetings virtually. If you wish to attend please contact Estelle Allington, Executive Assistant to the Board of Education, to request the link to the virtual meeting.
