Elizabeth was a protestant, and so was James who

succeeded her.

Elizabeth’s cousin Mary Queen of Scots was a

Catholic

When Elizabeth inherited England from her

Catholic sister, she changed the main religion to

Protestantism

INFLUENCE ON THEATRE

Queen Elizabeth and James I both liked theatre

Queen Elizabeth had to approve all plays

performed in Lodon

This caused a significant change in the style of

plays.

The queen liked Shakespeare’s plays and

supported his work

CHANGE IN THEATRE

Under Elizabeth’s rule theatres changed.

Plays were performed on a stage with three sides

were the audience could sit. Only the rear was open

for entrances/exits
