NARA:Records Management RequirementsE-Gov Act of 2002 – Section 207(e) – implemented in NARA Bulletin 2006-02 –

states:By 9/30/2009, agencies must have NARA-approved records schedules for all records in existing electronic information systems (EIS).For EIS’s that are in a system life cycle stage earlier than steady-state or are developed after 12/15/2005, agencies will work with NARA to schedule the records from these systems.Bulletin Link: http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/bulletins/2006/2006-02.html

OMB Exhibit 300, Question 23, Page 13, asks:Are the records produced by this investment appropriately scheduled with the National Archives and Records Administration’s approval?

Email, Records Management, and the CIOEmail records must be managed in a recordkeeping system (36 CFR 1234.24).CIOs should work with the Agency Records Officers and Program Managers to ensure an email policy is in place AND is carried out across the agency.
