Corner Clubhouse Gazette
In July, This Program Director, the Clubhouse Assistant Program Director: Amy Fermi,
and member: Jenna Parks, attended Clubhouse International’s two-week training program, in preparation
for Corner Club’s upcoming accreditation visit in January 2017. Corner Clubhouse mem-
bers and staff continue to be involved with the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition, and we
attended their annual conference and committee meetings. This director serves on the
board for the MCC, and our employment coordinator, Hannah Goodreau, is on the employ-
ment subcommittee. Both the MCC and CI continue to educate DMH on the importance of
having international standards for clubhouses, (which have been certified as “evidence-
based” programs). DMH has continued to sponsor DMH/Clubhouse meetings and train-
ings, which has greatly assisted us to have a better understanding of the required reporting
necessary for the clubhouse contract, as well as educating DMH about the vast array of
services that the clubhouse offers to members. One of the performance measures that
DMH is most interested in is our employment successes. Corner Clubhouse has remained
in the top five for competitive employment placements for the past 15 months! Six addi-
tional employment placements were secured by members from July 16—Dec. 16. On the
social side of programming, members were able to take advantage of some great summer
socials this past summer, as well as Clubhouse Connection events in the community.
Holiday dinners and parties were enjoyed by all. Going into 2017, we would like to wish
everyone a very happy, healthy New Year! Karen Therrien, Program Director
We’re baaaaaack! After a several-month hiatus, the Corner Clubhouse Gazette
is back in publication! We are pleased to announce that the program has fully-
recovered from the flood of July 2016. It has been business as usual since we
re-occupied our space in September. Members arrived on opening day, jaws
dropped with delight, to see a bright ,shiny, interior with a new paint job
throughout the building, new lighting, new floors , and all new IT equipment.
They stated that although they enjoyed and appreciated their time at the Fall
River, Towne House, and being serviced out in the community, “It felt good to
be home.” We were very happy to see that everyone of of our member’s that
were active before the temporary program closure, returned to regular
Attendance within weeks of our doors opening. So much has taken place in the
past six months, so we have done our best to summarize the highlights of the
last half of 2016.

The Admin./Voc. Unit worked hard on their unit boards incorporating some of the sugges-

The new board encompasses a more fully -engaging work ordered day. The unit also
worked on updating all of their member files, in order to meet our FHR compliance goals.
The unit will be continuing progress and prepare for Corner Clubhouses Accreditation visit.

Community Connections Is a big part of clubhouses integrating members with the peers in the
community. We have had a variety of events this past summer and
Holiday Season, and the members state that these events are one of the
things they enjoy most about being a clubhouse member. Let the good
times roll!

events. Top left to right and bottom: Nami Walk, Clubhouse and FR Region Cookout at Colt

During the month of December, Corner Clubhouse learned
that we will sadly will have to say goodbye to the TSH Greenhouse
that the FHR clubhouse members and staff were working at, for the
past several years. December 31st, was the official last day that the
greenhouse was open, under FHR management. We would like to
thank all of the members that worked there for many years, (Donald,
Damon, Gary, Gerry, and Helen), and the most recent greenhouse
manger, (Michelle H.), for their hard work and dedication. FHR had
an award ceremony for these members at C.C., and everyone of them
received a horticultural certificate of achievement and appreciation!
