REFLECT - RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN (RAP) We had an internal launch of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to formalise and further develop our respect, relationships and opportunities with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

The RAP will strengthen our organisational culture to ensure it is welcoming, respectful and supportive of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who join our staff can have success in the workplace.

We look forward to growing our business and profile in the broader local community to attract and retain Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on staff, as volunteers and as NDIS participants.

In Memoriam - John Taylor We were saddened by the loss of our close friend, work buddy and housemate, John Taylor, who passed away 10th December, 2019. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him during the many years he was supported by Fairhaven in his home and work life. Thank you for the wonderful memories, John.

We start the decade farewelling and wishing all the best to two leaders of Fairhaven, CEO Monique Cardon and General Manager Miriana Barrie.

Under Monique’s stewardship there were many changes in the sector as well as at Fairhaven. These included the NDIS roll out, improvements in our client management, payroll and finance systems, updating our look and image, merging our Point Clare and Tuggerah Co-packing operation and the launch of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to name but a few.

While Fairhaven finds its next CEO, Board Director, Tony Anderson has stepped down from the Board to take an interim CEO role from mid-January.

Miriana will be finishing up as General Manager at the end of April. She is committed to helping Fairhaven make a smooth transition to support the business needs into the future.

Miriana has been instrumental in working through many of the changes that have taken place within the organisation over the past five years, including the transition into the NDIS, improved financial and reporting outcomes, and her most recent work in delivering our new client management, payroll and finance systems. Miriana and Monique will be sorely missed across the organisation as integral members of the Senior Leadership Team.

THANK YOU AND FAREWELL... MONIQUE AND MIRIANA

$5,000 The Safe Pathway Project will see the development of a path that will enable safe access for residents and visitors with increased mobility needs so they too can easily enjoy the wonderful outdoor space provided at our Kincumber site.

of updates and face-lifts underway.

Keep your eyes peeled for a new shed space out the back of the Shopping Village, it will allow more space for furniture processing and give us some much needed storage.

The clothing area is being repainted and will be getting an exciting restyling. Our plant nursery will be expanding so your plant and pot donations are very welcome!

Retail is also on the lookout for glass jars with lids for the hardware department, if you have any please drop them off to our sorting room.

The annual Christmas Fair was held at the Point Clare site on December 7. Over 1,600 people were in attendance and we raised a total of over $7,000.

The festive crowd enjoyed browsing the many market stalls set up in the Shopping Village and were entertained by a full program of talent including the Fairhaven Happy Tappers, Brisbane Water Brass Band, a choir from Sing Australia!, and the Peninsula Pacific Island Group. We also had a kid’s fun area, cake stall, bumper raffles, a chocolate wheel and even an opportunity to meet and take photos with Santa!

NEW WHEELS FOR SAMIn January ReCreate supported employee team member Samantha took possession of her mobility scooter courtesy of Job Access and Newcastle Mobility. Many thanks to them. Samantha is an integral part of the ReCreate team, her customer service is second to none and when she isn’t sanding, painting of upscaling pieces she is sorting the ReCreate showroom in the Fairhaven Shopping Village. The scooter will enable Sam to travel all over the Fairhaven precinct and greatly enhance her ability and capacity to do her job at Fairhaven ReCreate. Samantha chose a red scooter, because as we all know, they go faster!
