THE ORGANIZATIONThe City of Palm Springs and Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter (now the shelter’s Board of Directors) have partnered to provide our community with a progressive, humane, and state of the art animal care facility which adheres to the No-Kill philosophy. The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is an open door facility, serving the City of Palm Springs.
We are looking for an innovative and dynamic individual who brings unique skills, motivating enthusiasm, proven management and communication skills, and a strong sense of integrity and accountability to the role of Director of Development. The successful candidate will have development and marketing experience preferably in the animal protection field and skills specific to progressive animal sheltering.
POSITION OVERVIEWThe Director of Development will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, Shelter Directors and Program Managers to strategize and establish sustainable funding strategies, develop campaigns, and ensure that work carried out is consistent with the organization’s mission, vision and strategic goals on micro and macro levels.
The Director of Development will report to the Board of Directors, and manage all philanthropic activities of the organization and supervise the Development Coordinator. The Director of Development will be responsible for increasing annual gifts, engaging donors, managing fundraising events, and creating e�ective revenue generation advertising campaigns as needed, and upholding the mission of the organization. Must be familiar with the animal welfare industry, the no-kill movement, and possess a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: • Develops and implements an annual plan to increase revenue and engage donors. • Direct the design of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors. • Develops and produces bi-weekly and monthly newsletters to educate and inspire all donors and friends. • Develop and write persuasive grant proposals to potential funders • Complies with all grant reporting as required by funders. • Ensures that donor gifts are acknowledged in a timely manner and that all development activities are conducted
according to best practice. • Oversees all special fundraising events and collaborates with volunteers to ensure their success. • Ensures that all events are well advertised and attended. Engages sta� to help and participate in these signature

organizational goals, setting objectives, identifying strategies, and managing the execution of plans. • Demonstrated outstanding skills communication (written and oral) with a wide variety of constituents, including
extensive writing experience and experience in strategic communications. • Demonstrated skill in independently composing written communication materials, for a variety of audiences,
