I have taken the prescribed courses offered by the old American Institute of Real Estate Appraiser and the Society of Real Estate Appraiser, professional groups that merged in 1990, forming the Appraisal Institute. I was designated by the Society in 1982 and with the Institute in 1984. I spent 13 years, from 1965-1978, working for mortgage lenders. During that period, valuable appraisal experience was gained with regard to determining values for mortgage lending purposes. Both during 1965-1978 and since, I’ve completed numerous appraisals for various lending institutions. Since 1978, I have been a principal in the firm of Bodell-Van Drimmelen & Associates. My appraisal experience has been varied, as I have appraised for a host of clients, and for various purposes, such as lending, estate, tax appeal, to assist in establishing a proposed selling price, bankruptcy, eminent domain, and litigation. I have had considerable experience appraising properties to help settle disputes. I have appeared several times as an expert witness in the state, district and federal courts. I have appraised for both condemnor and condemnees in eminent domain cases. My appraising experience has included many types of properties in Utah and contiguous states.
