For full information relative to Standard Nomenclature Lists, the procedure followed and the principlesemployed in the compilation, together with the purposes and uses thereof, see the Introduction to theOrrin ance Catalog (ORD 1 IOC), the Ordnance Provision System Regulations (OPSR) and the OrdnancePublications for Supply Index (ORD 20PSI).

Stnndard Nomenclature Lists for major items consist of three main parts: The Organizational SpareParts and Equipment (ORD 7), the Higher Echelon Spare Parts and Equipment (Addendum) (ORD 8),and the Service Parts Catalog (ORD 9). These three divisions may be published separately or may be com-bined. In the case of this publication they are combined into the one volume.

The contents of each of the sections and their uses are given briefly on the flyleaf of each section.

FEA TURES O F TH IS PUBLIC ATIO NThe following paragraphs explain various important details with which the user should be familiar for

proper understanding of the catalog and practices peculiar to this book:

STANDARDIZED GO VERNM ENT GRO UPING :The parts listed in this catalog are divided into major and minor groups in accordance with the Stand-

ardized Government Grouping. This division into groups facilitates the location and identification of eachpart. The Standard Government Grouping as adapted to this catalog is outlined on page 4.

ILLUSTRA T IONS :Assembly views and exploded views are used throughout the Service Parts Catalog (ORD 9) of this

catalog to aid the user in locating and identifying parts. All illustrations are placed in close relationshipto he groups to which they apply. On each illustration or separate reference legend the noun name, partnumber and appropriate group number of each part illustrated are given. This prompts the quick identi-fication of each part and accurate reference to the text for complete listing. Each illustration is identifiedby a figure number and title, and in the index section at the back of the catalog will be found an index ofall figures and the page on which they appear.

ATTA CH ING PARTS:Attaching parts, such as bolts, nuts and rivets, etc., are indented immediately below the part which

they attach as listed in the Service Parts Catalog (ORD 9). This promotes quick selection of the parts to berequisitioned for use in the installation of other parts.STANDARD H ARDWARE AND BULK MATERIA L:

A complete resume of all standard hardware and bulk material will be found listed in group 2304 ofORD 9. These same parts are also listed at each point of use throughout Addendum (ORD 8).

INDEXES:Particular attention is called to the fact that a complete set of indexes, numerical, alphabetical, etc., is

carried at the back of the book. However, attaching parts and standard hardware are not listed in all indexes.Attaching parts may be identified by locating part they attach in ORD 9 in which they will be indentedunder the part.

The part could also be found by referring to the alphabetical index under "BEARING,wheel." The same sub-group reference is made.

The same part could be found by reference to the Illustration Index to locate the figuwhich applies to the location or function of the part. After locating the part in figure, refer to thfigure legend to establish part number and sub-group.

ORGANIZATIONAL SPARE PARTS AND EQUIPMENT (ORD 7)

INTRODUCTIONThis is a list of organizational spare parts and organizational equipment (accessories; tools; sighting

and fire control equipment; applicable cleaning and preserving materials; and articles for instructionalpurposes); also vehicular spare parts and vehicular equipment (accessories; tools; armament; armamentspare parts: =rmament accessories; and ammunition); which are issued to the using arms or service forits use in per.orming 1st and 2nd echelon maintenance.

"Organizational Spare Parts." columns 6 through 13 inclusive. list the estimated quantities of partsrequired by Units performing 1000 mile (50 hr.) and 6000 mile (100 hr.) maintenance services to maintainthe various quantities of the vehicle assigned to a Unit.

"Organizational Tools," columns 6 through 9 inclusive. list the "Mechanics' Tool Kit" and the toolsets allocated to each "Company, Battalion Crew or Regiment Maintenance Platoon." The figures inthese columns indicate the quantities of each of the component tools comprising the kit or set shown at thehead of the column.

This standard nomenclature list is supplemental to Tables of Organization and Equipment (T IO&E).Tables of Basic Allowances (T/BA) and Tables of Allowances (T IA). It is therefore imperative that itbe in the hands of all organizations and establishments concerned.

SERV ICE PARTS CATALOG(ORO 9)

ORD 9 lists all parts of the vehicle which are considered to be Items of Service, whether or not availablefor issue. Its prime purpose is to facilitate the location and identification of parts, to establish StandardNomenclature for the description of parts and to show the quantity per unit assembly. Illustrations of partswill be found only in this section of the Standard Nomenclature List.

THIS SECTION (ORD 9) IS NOT TO BE USED FOR REQUISITIONING PARTSATTACHING PARTS

Attaching parts, such as rivets, bolts, nuts, screws, etc., are indented immediately under parts which theyattach. This promotes quick selection of the attaching parts needed for use in the installation of other parts.

QUANTITY PER UNIT ASSEMBLYThe Quantity per Unit Assembly Column lists the quantity of the part required for the particular use

in question. If,for example, there are two engines in the vehicle, the quantities of the components listed willbe double the number required in one engine. If there are two similar brackets, each requiring four bolts, thetotal quantity of eight bolts will be indicated. It is therefore necessary to check the quantity of assembliesbefore using the indicated quantity of components to determine the quantity required per engine. In the caseof attaching parts, the quantity of the items attached should be checked.
