What others have experienced.

Marcus Ahlstrom. Looking back on my year-long internship with Holmes Fire I feel so grateful and privileged to be aff orded such an amazing opportunity. I found working as an engineer in an English-speaking country a big but very educational challenge. Initially, I worked on a broad array of projects under the care of my co-workers until I was comfortable with everything from smaller residential developments to huge multi-million-dollar hotel developments.

I made tons of friends during my stay, both expats like myself from diff erent countries, but also local friends from diff erent parts of Australia which I value very much. My year in Sydney and at Holmes Fire was a lifechanging experience and without a doubt the best year of my life so far.

Stina Andersson. Working at Holmes has given me an opportunity to get international work experience while being able to explore a new country. As part of the Holmes Fire team, you fi nd yourself in a supporting environment with people who are always keen to help out and share their knowledge.

I have been able to travel quite a bit during my year in New Zealand. Holmes Fire has offi ces in fi ve diff erent locations around New Zealand which makes it possible (and easy) to combine work and travel. My favourite places are the Mt Cook area on the South Island and the Bay of Islands on the North Island.

Felicia Klint. Moving to New Zealand has been one of the scariest and best things I have ever done. The team at Holmes Fire are very supportive and helpful and I have learned so much in just one year. During this time, I have had a variety of my own projects ranging from authoring small reports, to creating simulations and even a 4-day site visit at a process industry facility. I also appreciated the opportunity to travel all around New Zealand and do cool activities like skiing, skydiving, hiking – I even did the Nevis Swing!

Erik Carlsson. From Lund University, Erik joined Holmes back in 2011 looking to experience working as a fi re engineer in Australia. After staying on to complete his thesis from Sydney, he is still with Holmes today. With the Sydney offi ce as home base, Erik spent a few weeks working from the Christchurch, Auckland, and San Francisco offi ces from 2013 to 2015. Erik relocated to the Holmes Fire San Francisco offi ce mid-2016, and has since returned to the Sydney offi ce in January 2018 where he has also taken on the role of Branch Manager since April 2019.
