PUNGGOL EAST CONTRACT 33 (PUNGGOL BREEZE)

Punggol Breeze is located at the junction of Punggol Drive and Edgefield Plains. The HDB project consists of 12 15- and 17-storey residential blocks with 964 units of four and five-rooms, a multi-storey carpark with a roof garden, two electrical sub-stations, two precinct pavilions and a common green.

Key Features:

• Adopted extensive use of precast and prefabricated componentsfor the construction of the structural elements. Most of the structural vertical columns and walls for the project were designed as precast solid components. Through the use of a full precast construction system and prefabricated wire mesh and beam/column cages, coupled with the standardisation of precast installation methods, the reliance on labour intensive and time consuming erection of external scaffold, external formwork, and platform system were eliminated.

• Precast ring water tanks, being much lighter than the standardwater tanks, were adopted to allow hoisting in ring forms by site tower cranes instead of high capacity mobile cranes, resulting in productivity savings.

• Scaffold-less construction was achieved using precast concreteskin for precast columns, eliminating external formwork and external climbing scaffolding.

• Structural steel design was opted for in contrast to conventionalreinforced concrete design for the crash barrier for multi-storey

carpark, the construction of site structures and use of composite roofing panels.

• The use of spray painting increased productivity and helped toachieve consistent and uniform surface texture with less material wastage.

• Bioswales stormwater retention system was utilised to replace aconventional stormwater drainage system, through retention, filtration and biological uptake. This minimised the manpower required for construction, and achieved an aesthetically pleasing design.

NV RESIDENCES

NV Residences is a condominium comprising eighth blocks of varying heights of 12, 14 and 15-storey residential apartments totalling 642 units, with a two-level basement carpark and a rain garden nature reserve.

Key Features:

• Precast concrete facade system was integrated with the systemformwork horizontal in-situ concrete slab. Precast concrete panels were carefully designed to minimise the variations in panel size, while ensuring that the architectural aesthetics were not compromised. This approach enhanced the ease of construction, and removed the usage of external scaffolding, which contributed to savings in manpower, and led to a clean site and the elimination of tedious housekeeping.

• Strut free excavation method was employed, by using contiguousbored piles (CBP), and a value engineering approach, to optimise working space and increase productivity.

• System formwork was adopted for the slab construction. This allowed the construction time and manpower to be reduced.

• Drywall partition was used for most internal walls. Drywall partition can easily be installed, thus requiring less labour.

• Prefabricated bathroom units (PBU) were adopted, which helpedto reduce the construction time.

AMSTERDAM SUCCESS

More than 4,400 people attended APEX 2014 – which was held from 24 to 26 June – with the numbers rising to 5,500 when visitors to the neighbouring International Rental

Exhibition (IRE) are included. Visitors registered for each show had free access to both shows.

Organised by BV Industrial Promotions International (IPI), APEX 2014 attracted more than 100 manufacturers and suppliers from all over the world. The show took place with a backdrop of increased investment by rental companies, and this was evident in the number of deals sealed during the show - exhibitors including Palfinger, Omme Lift, Ruthmann all reporting significant orders, said IPI. The show is supported by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and Access International magazine.

Visitors included CEOs and senior figures from the European and worldwide rental sector, including delegates attending the European Rental Association’s annual convention. Representatives from Loxam, Cramo, Ramirent, United Rentals, Hewden, HSS and many more also attended the show.

The Danish company Omme Lift attended APEX this year to launch a new 42 m tracked boom, the Omme Lift 4200 RBDJ. “For us APEX 2014 was a great show. The new 4200 received a lot of positive feedback and we took several orders for the machine, which we will begin delivering this autumn,” said Harry Lorentsen, managing director of Omme Lift. “APEX was different from other EU-shows in the last couple of years where there was a lot of positivity at the events, but afterwards not enough of it converted into actual interest in our products. However at APEX, we sold machines and received a lot of requests for machine demonstrations afterwards.”

Anita Maj Klitgaard, marketing manager of Time Export, said, “We are very pleased with the result of this exhibition. Despite fewer visitors on the first day, we have made good contact with interesting new companies. Wednesday and Thursday were very busy and successful days for us. We are also happy with the new location; the outside area is a nice and open place to exhibit the equipment.”

“The APEX trade show in Amsterdam has just ended but we can already say that it was a resounding success as enthusiastic visitors from all over the world placed orders for Steiger models in all categories,” said Rolf Kulawik, managing director of Ruthmann. “Many new contacts were established and we also had the opportunity to nurture our existing customer base. Our Height performance-Steiger T 400 celebrated its world premiere at this year’s APEX. This two-axle, truck-mounted aerial work platform is equipped with a 40 m working height and 31 m lateral reach. As with the other siblings in this series – the T 380, T 460, T 540, T 630 and the T 720 – the most beneficial feature of the T 400 is the extraordinary length of the upper boom with its movable jib (Rüssel). The sales launch of our next Height performance-model – the Steiger T 480 – was a huge success as several sales agreements were finalised at APEX.”

Sibel Aygül of ELS Makine, a first time exhibitor from Turkey, said, “APEX 2014 was a really well organised event and we had lots of professional visitors at our booth. Our target is to be among the global market leaders in the industry. Therefore, it was a great opportunity for us to introduce our company to the global market.”

Richard Puglia, JLG business development and marketing director EAME, said, “It’s been a very positive show and our customers have been very enthusiastic. There is optimism in the market and a lot of interest.”

Independent Parts Specialists (IPS) exhibited at APEX 2014 in order to further expand its global presence. Richard Tindale, sales and marketing director of IAPS Group, which owns IPS, explained, “APEX is the global market place for the powered access industry and

was a great success for us. We met with a lot of well-established rental companies and dealers from all corners of the globe, who are very interested in our unique Parts Partner proposition.” IPS will launch a new e-commerce website for convenient online parts ordering on 1 August 2014, which will include quick search capabilities via manufacturer, part type and specific machine model; as well as the option for instant payment via debit/credit card, or setting up an account.

IRE showThe third International Rental Exhibition (IRE) drew a high quality audience of rental delegates, including around 300 senior industry figures who attended the European Rental Association (ERA) convention. The exhibition had 1,035 visitors in total, which does not include the 4,400 visitors at the adjoining APEX exhibition. All APEX visitors had free access to IRE. Senior figures from the European and worldwide rental sector were at the show, including representatives from Loxam, Kiloutou, Zeppelin, Workx, Energyst, Boels Rental, Cramo, Ramirent, United Rentals, Hewden, HSS and many more.

IRE is also organised by IPI and supported by the European Rental Association (ERA) and International Rental News (IRN) magazine. The show was held alongside the ERA’s annual convention and also the European Rental Awards.

Furthermore, more than 50 runners raised €3,500 for the CliniClowns charity in the 5 km fun-run held during the APEX and IRE exhibitions. CliniClowns is an organisation that provides entertainment to children in hospital. Sponsors of the event included JLG, Riwal, IPAF and its members, KHL, Bronto Skylift, the RAI Exhibition Centre, PG Trionic and IPI.

Both APEX and IRE are scheduled to return to Amsterdam in 2017, with dates still to be confirmed. n

n Show Review

Skyjack introduced a motor controller device for its line of DC scissor platforms. The technology is already featured as part of Skyjack’s line of vertical mast lifts and has been for many years. Applying it to the company’s range of DC scissors gives the equipment closer control, better efficiency, longer working time between recharges and quieter operation.

The device manages the DC electric motor that drives the scissor platforms, delivering only the power required to complete any given operation. This improves performance without overcomplicating the machine’s design and also maintains the features and benefits customers love on their Skyjack DC scissor platforms.

Benefits of the motor controller include a longer battery life - because the controller delivers only the power that is required by each operation, overall working life between charges is increased; lower energy consumption - with the new design, recharging time is also shorter, reducing energy consumption, lowering cost and improving environmental credentials; quieter operation - because the motor output is no longer set to its maximum, noise levels are reduced; and better manoeuvrability, as the new power delivery to the mechanisms allows enhanced steering settings - this is particularly useful in confined spaces. In addition to better steering, travel speeds are optimised.

To begin with, the technology will be available on all Skyjack DC scissor platforms sold in Europe, Asia and Australia. These include SJIII 3215, SJIII 3219, SJIII 3220, SJIII 3226, SJIII 4626 and SJIII 4632. Additional market launches will be considered in the future, said Skyjack. In the meantime, trials are planned for customers in other markets and Skyjack welcomes requests from customers to participate in these trials. The company plans on introducing this new technology on machines in North America after the new design standards for aerial work platforms are in effect in the US.

The Skyjack range of DC scissor platforms is known for its ease of service; low maintenance design; compact shape and versatile operations. The machine features robust, all-steel construction that is strong, durable and reliable; easy access to all major components for simpler maintenance and service; hard-wired relay-based control systems with standardised colour-coded and numbered wiring; commonality of

SKYJACK

design and layout across the range for better familiarisation; and lower lifecycle costs.

Another highlight at the Skyjack stand was the European unveiling of the SJ6832 RTE electric rough-terrain scissor lift, which debuted earlier this year. It is said to be the only machine in its category with 45 percent gradeability and four-wheel drive as standard. The RTE provides end users with a zero emission scissor lift that comes with the low running costs and high uptime.

The SJ6832 RTE can handle a maximum capacity of 454 kg and offers a maximum working height of 11.75 m. To simplify operator and service training, the machine was built on the same chassis as the existing diesel and dual fuel 68RT units. This allows those already familiar with the traditionally powered 68RT lifts to transition seamlessly to the electric version. Foam-filled non-marking tyres, near-zero noise levels, zero emissions and the tightest turning radius in its class make the transition from outdoor to indoor jobs easier than ever.

Maintenance costs and time are reduced with the RTE through the elimination of servicing air filters, fuel filters, oil filters, oil changes, belts, coolants, etc. Almost all non-power-plant related parts are common with the internal combustion 6832RTs. The standard Skyjack colour-coded and numbered wiring system, along with full access to all serviceable components and a tilt-out hydraulic manifold adds to the ease of maintenance for the SJ6832 RTE.

In addition, the Skyjack SJ9250 RT full-size rough terrain scissor lift offers high work heights and heavy-duty capacities. The machine has an expansive platform of up to 7.21 m in length, with a maximum working height of 17.24 m and capacity of up to 227 kg.

Above: Skyjack has introduced a motor controller device for its line of DC scissor platforms.

Skyjack straight and articulated booms were also exhibited at the show. The newest in this range is the SJ63 AJ articulating boom, which features a unique open centre knuckle riser design for improved visibility and compact dimensions, and the ‘straight boom functionality,’ which allows the boom to reach the ground with the riser fully elevated, increasing productivity and offering below ground reach capabilities. Dual lift cylinders provide comfort and stability, while maintaining true vertical rise, which prevents any forward or backwards drift. The SJ63 AJ has a working height of 21.38 m, horizontal reach of 12.19 m and an up-and-over clearance of 8.38 m.

Other Skyjack machines on display included the SJ46 AJ articulating boom lift; SJ66T telescopic boom lift; SJ12 and SJ16 vertical mast lifts; and SJIII 3219, SJIII 3226 and SJIII 4632 DC electric scissor lifts. n

Riwal launched a major innovation, converting the JLG 800AJ articulating boom lift from diesel to electric powered.

As one of the leading specialists in the rental and sales of access equipment, Riwal takes pride in being able to customise equipment from renowned manufacturers such as JLG to match specific needs in from its customers. The 800AJ conversion to electric was done following a demand from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for a 26 m working height aerial work platform for use on aircraft maintenance inside the hangars that would not expose the employees to emissions or loud noise. The diesel engine and the fuel tank were replaced by an electric engine, battery pack, charger and control mechanics of the electric engine. The customised machine is fully compliant with the TÜV test requirements.

The key features of the JLG 800AJ, such as working height and horizontal outreach, combined with the electric power source, provides Riwal customers with a strong solution enabling them to work in a safe and productive way while at the same time reducing emission and noise levels.

The Riwal Holding Group, founded in 1968 and headquartered in the Netherlands, is an international rental specialist of aerial work platforms and power generators. Riwal employs over 1,000 people, has operations in 17 countries on three continents, and has an aerial work platform fleet of 13,000 units. n

MANITOUThe Manitou Group has expanded its range of telescopic access platforms with the new 260 TJ, which has a working height of 26 m. The elevation structure on the machine’s articulated fulcrum makes it possible to get really close to buildings for a better working area and productivity gains. The compact dimensions of the 260 TJ (width 2.42 m x 10.80 m) optimises manoeuvrability on cluttered construction sites, and transport is synonymous with time saving and safety.

The 260 TJ can easily avoid obstacles because of its all-terrain characteristics (four steering wheels/crab mode), thus providing better access to the working area. The machine is also fitted with a jib to offer greater usage flexibility to operators.

The 260 TJ has a basket capacity of 400 kg, allowing three people to work. And the machine features a Kubota Euro IIIA engine (45 hp), which gives it the power necessary to travel over all-terrain surfaces.

Combined with electronic management of engine speeds by stages, it allows linear translation of the basket when telescoping the boom, ensuring comfort and safety for the operator while limiting the environmental impact (reduced consumption/and noise). The engine is compliant with European polluting emission standards in force since 2013.

The electronic management contributes to making horizontal or vertical movements of the basket during application along the wall of a building. These simulated movements are produced by a unique system of hydraulic flow management.

Manitou also introduced the Safe MAN system, which is designed to protect the operator. It aims to secure the operator in case of crushing and is compatible with the EN 280 standard.

The way the system works is quite simple. A sensitive bar is placed in front of the access platform’s control panel. When the access platform is active and pressure is applied to the sensitive edge, the automatic function cut-out immediately stops all movements. Shortly, an alert message appears on the display in the turret, an alarm sounds and a blue flashing light comes on. After that, the operator has a choice of two solutions. If he/she is conscious, he/she can press the reset/re-initialisation button (bypass button); if he/she is unconscious, it is possible to take control of the machine from the controls at the base of the access platform.

Manitou said the Safe MAN system will be available during the third quarter of 2014 on the ATJ articulated access platforms and TJ telescopic access platforms. n

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) exists to promote the safe and effective use of powered access equipment worldwide. That was the objective of its founding members and this was the theme at IPAF’s stand.

IPAF members reaffirmed the Federation’s original objectives and re-adopted them into the Federation’s rules at the recent annual general meeting in April. Among others, IPAF’s objectives are to encourage the highest standards of safety and good trading

by members as well as to encourage technical efficiency in the industry by cooperation in the establishment of standards.

“IPAF’s members cooperate to protect the safety of people in the access industry,” said IPAF CEO Tim Whiteman. “By re-adopting the founding principles, IPAF members make very clear what IPAF stands for and what it sets out to do and deliver.”

IPAF was the official partner association supporting APEX and was holding a series of member meetings at the show. n

Dinolift Oy introduced the new trailer-mounted Dino 180XT II. The machine has all the standard features that come with the Dino family, such as driving system and continuous rotation of the boom, said the company. The 180XT II is also compact, yet has an excellent sideways outreach of 9.1 m with a 215 kg basket load (and 11.2 m with 120 kg) - all this with a total weight of 2,300 kg. The hydraulic basket rotation allows a 180 degree rotation as a standard feature. Thanks to spider-type outriggers, the 180XT II can be easily levelled even at over 8 degree.

In addition to technical improvements, the 180XT II is environment-friendly. The Auto Start Stop function automatically switches off the electromotor when the machine is stationary, thereby reducing both fuel consumption and noise.

Dinolift also showcased the ultra-light and easy-to-use Dino 105TL. The smallest member of the Dino family, the 105TL offers the right combination of mobility, reliability and safety, ideal for rental companies and building contractors.

Furthermore, the Dino 185XTS boom lift has an impressive outreach of 11.7 m with 250 kg capacity in the basket. The 18.5 m boom lift has quick and stable boom movements and an intelligent steering system offering a safe and easy operation of the machine. The 185XTS can be operated at 5 degree and will easily climb up a 45 percent slope thanks to the powerful Deutz engine.

For extreme working conditions, the crawler-mounted Dino 220XTC is a smart choice. Robust but still lightweight and compact, the 220XTC features a gradeability of 43 percent combined with an outstanding levelling capability of 16 degree. As optional equipment, the Dino XTC crawler can be fitted with radio control for easier manoeuvrability, electro engine and nonmarking tracks for inside operation.

In 2014, Dinolift is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Dino aerial work platforms. To mark the milestone year, the company has introduced a new logo and tagline, while at the same time boosting marketing efforts in key markets. n

It is also fuel efficient as three machines can be linked together operating from one engine, giving up to 400 hours running time.

Another highlight was the SMC Solar-2, which is set to be popular in the international market. Following a development period of three years, the innovative lighting tower provides 100 percent fuel saving and importantly emits zero noise and zero CO2. With over 50 hours on a single charge and up to 230 when supplemented with solar power, the Solar-2 is an excellent solution for hirers and users looking for environment-friendly, cost effective and low maintenance equipment. According to the company, it is Britain’s first solar lighting tower.

Morris Site Machinery also offers a range of Hilta power washers and pumps. Manufactured in Britain, the Hilta range of pumps consists of submersible, residue, centrifugal, diaphragm and automatic priming water pumps. An industry favourite, the Hilta Drysite D5 is a 3-in diesel diaphragm pump, available with a 24 hour running tank. n
