  • JESUS WAS BORN

    Christmas Family Devotional

    “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory,glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

    John 1:14

  • NOTE TO PARENTS:We encourage you to use this devotional with your family

    on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

    Although our Christmas may look different this year, we pray that your family will see Christ in the small

    things.. . .in the FaceTime or Zoom calls with family, in the exchange of cards, texts, or KakaoTalk messages

    with friends, in the laughter of your children, and during your time of family worship.

    May the birth of Christ be the source of all your joy this Christmas!

  • OPENING PRAYER:Lord, thank you for this time that we are setting asideto worship you this Christmas. Would you take awayany distraction, so we can focus on you during thistime. And we ask that the Holy Spirit will help us to

    understand the true meaning of Christmas. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

  • Imagine riding in a train that goes through along, dark tunnel. In the beginning, you mightfeel excited because you’re in a tunnel. But asyou continue to sit in darkness, you may startto feel uneasy or even afraid. You begin towonder when the tunnel will end. You lookstraight ahead and strain your eyes hoping tosee a glimmer of light. And when you see it,you immediately feel relief because you knowyou will soon exit the tunnel into daylight.

    DEVOTIONAL:{Ask mom or dad to read the following }

  • When sin entered this world, people wereseparated from God because our God is a HolyGod and sinners cannot be with Him. Theworld lived in spiritual darkness. But God’splan all along was to send a Savior who wouldsave sinners from sin once and for all. ThatSavior is His Son, Jesus Christ, and allthroughout the Old Testament, we see God’spromise to send a Savior.

    {Ask for a volunteer to read Isaiah 9:6}

  • Jesus’ birth was the glimmer of light in thedark tunnel for the world. Through Hismiraculous birth, we see God’s great love forus that He would keep His promise of sendinga Savior. We see Jesus’ humility that He wouldcome into this world as a human baby born in astable to dwell with people. And we feel reliefbecause we now have hope. We have hopebecause we know that once Jesus does what Hecame to this earth to do - to die on the crossfor our sins and rise again - then those whobelieve will exit the dark tunnel of spiritualdarkness into the light of eternal life with ourGod.

  • THAT is why we are filled with joy at Christmas!When we celebrate the birth of our Savior, weremember that God fulfilled His promise, and weremember the hope we receive through Jesus!

    {As for a volunteer to read John 1:9-12}

  • REFLECTION QUESTIONS:{As a family, discuss the following questions }

    1) How do you feel knowing that Jesus was born to save YOUfrom the punishment of being separated from God forever?

    2) What is one way you can live your life honoring God?

  • CLOSING PRAYER:Before you close, please ask your children if anyone would like to say

    a one sentence prayer before you close in prayer.

    Father, this pandemic year has been difficult for all of us, but we thankyou for keeping our family healthy and safe. We also thank you for

    reminding us this Christmas of the hope we have in Jesus. We pray that as a family, we would continue to keep our eyes fixed on you

    and live to honor you in all that we do. We love you. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
