QUESTION 7: LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE

PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

• For my preliminary task I had to design a front cover and content page advertising a new school magazine, which had to include a medium close up shot. • I had never used InDesign or Photoshop before.

From my preliminary task I felt like I had learnt the basics, that I knew that I could develop these skills wit practice.

• In my preliminary I learnt how to add text, create different layers, insert images and how to add effects on text. As well as resizing the images and changing the color of the text. By the time I got to my production , I was able to use more professional tools such as the smudge tool, the quick selection tool, I learnt how to add a blur, how to edit out the background and how to make an image black and white.

• I could have improved lots in my preliminary. I could have explored with different fonts for my content page instead of just the basics.

• For the mise en scene, the photo was taken in a school classroom however this was not obvious on the magazine, so I would of changed the location to in front of a school building for example. I purposely chose a model who was wearing classes as it gives a connotation intelligence. She is also wearing her school uniform which shows that she is proud to represent her school. The lighting in the room was also quite dim, this could have been something which affected my photography. I wanted her to be in her uniform so that it looked sophisticated.

SKILLS PROFILE

• I can now edit my photos using Photoshop to make it look attractive. • I am able to take the photos for a magazine. • I can think of creative ideas/ designs for my

magazine which has fun colours and graphics now. Also different ways to present my text which is appealing.

• In my prim task I chose to use pink text on the front cover and a girl on the front. She is wearing no makeup as the target audience of the school magazine would be parents and they would want to see students concentrate on their education and not their appearance. And I used white text because it is simple and gets the message across as choosing a new school for your child is an important decision.
