Q6. What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?By Shanaz Ahmed

I have learnt many things about technologies from the process of constructing our film opening.

There were many features that came with this, such as putting text on our website, adding titles, uploading videos and images.

Firstly, I learnt how to create and use our own website, in which we used ‘Webs’.

We used our webs to present our progression from the preliminary task, to the actual film opening. It was used as a schedule and a planner that we needed in the production of our film opening. We uploaded our research we did on our film opening on webs, which shows the information that inspired our idea for the film opening. There is a production calendar on webs, which helped us stay organized and keep a note on what we have done and we need to do. All of our planning towards the film opening was posted on our webs, which showed what we did, step by step, to the full product.

Final Cut ProFinal Cut Pro is a software that is used to create and edit videos. This software was essential in the creation of our film opening. We used Final Cut Pro to edit our film opening and create it in the way we intended it to be. At first, I found it quite difficult to use, as it was all very new to me and the features were complex. However, I learnt to use this software by experimenting with its features and trying out new things. I also learnt other features of this software from my group members.

For example, we used the blade tool to edit out a part of the clip that we did not want. The blade is used to cut the part of the clip from its desirable place and delete it.

Logic ProLogic Pro is a software that is used to create your own sound. It may be used to create sound effects, or it may be used to create a soundtrack. We used Logic Pro to create our soundtrack for our film opening, which was significantly important as it portrayed our genre. I created the soundtrack for our film opening. Logic Pro is also a complex software to use, but once I became familiar with its features and functions, creating the soundtrack became easier to do. To create sound, I chose the instrument I wanted from the library and created the notes I wanted for our film opening. I used the instrument of ‘pop piano’ for the main notes of the soundtrack, which stayed consistent throughout.

MotionMotion is a software that is used to create the titles and the text in a video. We used this software to create the titles and text for our film opening. At first in the production of our film opening, we created the titles and the text from Final Cut Pro. We did not think to use Motion tomake our titles as we thought using Final Cut Pro to make them was an easy way out. However, we realised we were wrong as on Motion, there are several different behaviours and effects we could use for the titles and text, that Final Cut Pro didn’t have.

The different behaviours were chosen from here.

This is the timeline of the actual text, the effects, and how long they will go on for. For our titles, we used the effects of ghostly in and ghostly out, which created a sense of eerieness. This portrays that it is of a thriller genre.

CameraworkFrom the process of constructing our film opening, I have learnt the importance of using different camera shots, angles and the editing techniques. We used a DSLR camera to shoot the scenes of our film opening. All of the members in my group had to learn how to use the DSLR camera, as we were struggling to capture some scenes the way we wanted to, for example, the focus shot. We wanted to focus on the pill in our character’s hand and pull out to show her face. Therefore, each of us had a go at trying to master this scene. After 30-40 scenes, with much practice, we

I learnt the importance of a tripod, a while after we started creating our film opening. I learnt it by noticing the difference of using a tripod to film and filming the scenes handheld, which portrayed the significant difference. A couple of our scenes were not stable, which was recognised when we watched the scenes, which resulted in re-shooting the scenes and ensuring it is attached to the tripod.

were finally able to capture this scene, similar to how we wanted it, but it wasn’t exactly as we imagined it, but we settled with what we had. This shows the importance of camerawork as without having the correct techniques, we wouldn’t be able to filmour opening as we pictured it.
