Who would the target audience be for your media product & why?Morgan Fearnley

Target AudienceI think my target audience for my media product would be mainly males aged in their late teens to mid twenties (17-25). Their interests would be to enjoy going out and socialising with friends mostly and being quite active like playing a sport or going to the gym. Their musical interests would mainly focus on Indi/rock so they would enjoy The Arctic Monkeys and Bastille but they also enjoy listening to some house music like Disclosure. Their lifestyle are quite busy with college and work so they need something to help them escape reality which a magazine can do well. They like going watching their favourite bands play in live concerts at least once every other month.

On my front cover I have used quite bold, manly colours like blue, red and black which could attract males because they are quite a masculine colour. Although they are masculine it could appeal to many females also.

The bands I have used on my front cover could also appeal mainly to males as they are popular boy bands that males could look up to and generally males prefer male artists to female artists.

The font I have used is quite bold and in block text rather with bold colours like black and white which males could be drawn to.

The layout of my contents page is very simple. Males generally like things to be simple and not too complex so it is easy to understand.

I have used a good looking girl in my contents page so there isn't too many male artists in the magazine and to give it more variety for my audience to read about. Males also generally get drawn towards good looking females and it will make them want to pick up the magazine more and read about why she is in the news.

Like the front cover, the artists I have used in my contents page are mostly artists males like to listen and read about. This is because males can normally relate to what they are signing about and so they would want to read about them and their experiences rather than female artists’ experiences as they wont be able to relate to them as well.

The stories I have used in my contents page will also attract more males because they are normally more interested in what new technology is out for music and I have used gossip that males could relate to more over females to get their attention.

Mostly males play the drums over females so I have got a picture of a band member playing the drums so that my target audience can feel like he has a connection with the artist and find out more about him.

The colours I have used are similar to the contents page- black and white. Black is seen as quite a masculine colour and so I have made it the background with white and gold writing so that there isn't too many colours on the page and it is simple. I have also made the layout simple by giving it a nice structure so it is easy to read and columns aren't bunched together and are separated by gutters. most males prefer simple things to complex things.
