How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Part 1
(the basics)

All of my work (that wasnt recorded on paper) was done on an Apple iMac with 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3. Macintosh HD. The operating system loaded onto the Apple iMac I used was Mac OSX, Version 10.6.8. Alongside this I used a keyboard and mouse. All of these products were made by Apple.

This was useful during construction, research, planning and evaluation because I could keep everything in one place and access it easily/quickly whenever I needed to. It was a very efficient outlet for my ideas and work.

Part 2
(research, planning and construction)

The majority of my research, planning and construction was done on the internet. To access the internet I used Safari Web Browser (Version 5.1.9 - 6534.59.8). This program enabled me to access websites from which I could draw ideas. Some of these websites also gave me a base on which I could plan (by making notes or recording findings).

I firstly created an account on Wordpress (www.okgomez.wordpress.com) , this became my main base, I recorded all of my ideas, inspiration and plans here which was helpful to refer back to and quickly jot things down.

Another very useful site was Google (www.google.co.uk), I used this as a base to search from. For example to find images of artists or to answer any questions I had (eg What would people wear in the 1950s?)

YouTube (www.youtube.com) was also crucial as it allowed me to watch other indie music videos and draw inspiration from them. It also allowed me to analyse the conventions in typical indie videos.

I also used clip converter to convert YouTube into audio and mov files. I used Dafont to find a suitable font for my digipak.

Part 3
(footage and editing

In the production of my music video there were many different elements that helped me build up to the final piece.

I used a Canon Legria video camera in order to capture the footage. When uploading any of this footage I transferred it from the original camera SD card onto a Optima 16GB USB memory stick as an extra precaution. When shooting the footage I also used a tripod to enable me to get a wide range of shots with ease. Whilst shooting I played the audio for 'Royals' on my iPhone 4s to ensure my performer mimed in time. To capture images for my digipak I used a Sony Alpha DSLR and set it up so I could use an external flash alongside to ensure the lighting was at its best.

Part 4
(Final Cut)

Final Cut was absolutely crucial in the production/editing of my music video. I used Final Cut Pro X, version 10.0.9 (by Apple). Whenever I recorded footage, I imported it straight onto Final Cut in order to easily sift through it all and delete what I didn't need, I was then ready to start to build up my video by placing clips along the time-line (in the necessary time slot). Within Final Cut I learnt to crop edits so they were shorter and to crop the image seen so any background mess in the shot could be avoided. I also began to familiarise myself with editing the pace, colour or effect on the clips.

Part 4
(Photoshop)

Photoshop was also crucial, however I used it in the creation of my digipak. I used Photoshop CS5 (by Adobe). Once I'd captured the images I imported them onto Photoshop and could begin to edit them, for example changing the brightness levels or duplicating/flipping images for effect. The Photoshop skills I learnt when doing AS really helped here as I was already familiar with the software and could access everything I needed with relevant ease.
