After seeing the first 5 minutes of our documentary, would you be interested in watching the rest of the documentary?

Here are some of the justifications people gave for saying they would like to watch our documentary, following the first 5 minutes: “The variety of shots and camera

movement made it entertaining to watch.”

“It engages the audience well and makes you want to watch it.”

“A topic I’d be interested in, seems very informative with investigation.”

“Provides good and key information about the chosen topic.”

“Voice over made it seem very interesting.”

This graph shows how many people gave the different elements of our documentary a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.

A positive element of feedback from this question is that no one gave any of our elements a rating of 1 or 2, which are the 2 lowest ratings.

Generally our scoring was quite high for each element.

Here are some of the positive comments that people said with regards to the rating they gave us about Camera Work:

“Good use of zooms.” – rating 5 “Good following of conventions for professional interviews (rule of

thirds).” – rating 4 “Clear view of interviewees/mise-en-scene.” – rating 5 “Some interesting shot types and camera zooms for cutaways.” –

For our camera work we were rated all 4’s and 5’s, so over all there were no negative comments about the use of shots and types of shots.

Here are some of the positive comments that people said with regards to the rating they gave us about Cutaways:

“Variety of archive material and well-done self shot footage.” – rating 5

“Related to the topic.” – rating 5 “Relevant and well organised.” – rating 3 “Relatable to topic, enlightening however some too short.” – rating 4

For our cutaways we were rated all 4’s and 5’s with one rating 3 which I included above. However, the rating 3 was not for poor cutaways as the reason they gave for scoring a 3 was positive towards the documentary. So over all there were no negative comments about the use of shots and types of shots.

Here are some of the positive comments that people said with regards to the rating they gave us about Editing:

“Good range of editing techniques.” – rating 4 “Editing flowed throughout the documentary.” – rating 5 “Well placed clips, no jump cuts or gaps (which is good).” – rating 4 “Flowed well - continuity.” – rating 4

For our editing we were rated all 4’s and 5’s, so over all there were no negative comments about the style and way in which we edited clips and the sound.

Here are some of the positive comments that people said with regards to the rating they gave us about Sound:

“Relevant sound bed.” – rating 5 “Little noise in the back of one interview but over all very good.”–

rating 4 “Soundtrack links to subject and the voice over is focused.” – rating

3 “Clear and concise, easy to hear/understand.” – rating 5

For our sound we were rated all 3’s, 4’s and 5’s, so over all there were no negative comments about the sound bed or the pitch of the clips being majorly varied.

Here are some of the positive comments that people said with regards to the rating they gave us about Mise-en-scene:

“Good settings and code of attire.” – rating 5 “Relatable to the topic and work places.” – rating 4 “Fairly good choice of location/setting.” – rating 3 “Lots of fruit and veg in the back round to remain relevant.” – rating

For our mise-en-scene we were rated all 4’s and 5’s and 1 rating of 3, so over all there were no negative comments about the settings and location of cutaways and interviews used.

What did you like/dislike about our voiceover?

“Liked the fact it was clear, concise and straight forward with professional emphasis on words.”

Good, clear, understandable.”

“It was well delivered.”

Generally the feedback for our voiceover was all positive and stated how well it suited the topic of the documentary and its themes. Also, how clear the voiceover itself was.

Do you think that our chosen themes of, healthy eating and 5-a-day, were a constructive choice for our documentary?

As shown in the pie chart, there was only a very small percentage of people that said they didn’t think our themes were a constructive choice. The 13% represented only one person. And in the following question when asked to justify their choice, they said they would rsther watch documentaries about “sports, disabilities, education.”

In what ways do you feel we successfully addressed our chosen theme within the first five minutes of our documentary?

“The cutaways and voxpops.”

“Well filmed cutaways and use of camera work.”

“All of the interviews were relevant and the title sequence anchors the purpose of the documentary.”

Feedback on the first five minutes and how well it links to out themes was over all positive. Most of the answers talked about how good our camera work, filming and cutaways were, in relation to how well the first five minutes portrayed our main themes.

Everyone asked said that after listening to our radio trailer, it made them want to watch our documentary. This is extremely positive feedback and shows that we were highly successful in our radio trailer.

Everyone asked said that after viewing our print advert, they wanted to watch our documentary. Which tells us that our print ad has been successful in catching the attention of the audience.
