OUR DIGIPAK

DIGIPAK• Themes: The name of our song is “One Night” therefore we

thought it would be suitable to have a ‘night’ theme to our digipak by using the night sky as the main design.

• Mise-En-Scene: We achieved this ‘night’ theme by setting the starry night sky as the background portraying this theme. We also achieved this by using dark photographs and editing them to create a contrast betw een the black and white and a contrast between the wording and digipak background (reference to the moon contr asting with the dar k night sky).

• Composition: With the text we chose to centralise it, making a symmetrical front cover and track-listing for the back of the digipak. – We wanted it so be as simplistic as possible and not to complicate the composition.

Our Magazine Advert

MAGAZINE ADVERT

• Mise-en-scene: Our magazine ad is very similar to our digipak in terms of mise-en-scene. The ‘night’ theme is still apparent as the background is the same image as the digipak’s background.

• Theme: ‘Night’ theme (starry sky, bright writing contrasting with it representing the moon)

MUSIC VIDEO• Theme: Majority of the shots are dark and give the feel of the

shots being late at night. • Motif: One shot we refer back to shows a very strong contrast

of light showing only half our lead singer’s face in bright light and the other half is pitch black – The half of his face illuminated looks like a moon. We’ve also use this motif on the digipak.

WHAT LINKS THESE 3 PRODUCTS

• Mise-en-scene: Digipak and music video have clear links as the lead singer and band feature in both (performing)

• Motifs: Contrasts between colours and lighting (representing the moon and the night sky)

• Themes: All 3 products have the ‘night’ theme in common – for the digipak and mag ad the theme is clear as the back ground is a starry night sky and the writing is purple (a colour we thought represented ‘night’ well)

How these products represent our artist’s image?

• Each product is simple yet effective – John Rzeznik focuses on his music more than his appearance.

• They each have down to earth feel, again concentrating more on the music than image.

• Our music video is a ‘raw’ video and it goes back to basics as the Goo Goo Dolls’ other videos really show off the talent of the band and their musicianship instead of their appearances.

WHAT TARGET AUDIENCE EXPECT TO SEE

• Again, the target audience are music lovers. The most important thing to them is the music itself. They won’t need to see a glamorous magazine ad to be interested or a fancy music video to keep interest in the Goo Goo Dolls.

• They would expect to see the band present on the digipak and music video so they can see the band members in their element (playing/singing)

OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS?

• The digipak, mag ad and video show the song ‘One Night’ for what it actually is – There is nothing false about all 3. They promote the Goo Goo Doll’s new song in a simplistic way which is what the Goo Goo Dolls are all about.
