1) Definitions Primary research – research that has been carried out by

you; original research

Secondary research – research that has already been undertaken by someone else; applying it for your own benefit

Qualitative research – high detail research that often consists of words; descriptive and specific

Quantitative research – lower detail research that is often made from numbers as the data; much easier to interpret and apply

2) The importance of researchResearch is important if you want to create your own media product, because it’s important that you find out the unwritten rules of the media product you wish to create. Without doing this, you may end up creating something that is not conventional by any means, and would therefore not appeal to the audience. One of the most important aspects of research therefore, is to discover what the trends and conventions are for a media product which has a similarity to what you intend to create.

4) What form of research was most useful?I found that techniques I like was one of the most useful forms of research that I did for the A2 task, because it allowed to research for new camera/editing techniques that I never knew existed beforehand. By researching the dolly zoom, I believe that it has greatly enhanced the quality of our production, and was therefore a very valuable task.

5) How could digital media be used more for research?I could’ve potentially viewed more videos as research, because upon looking back on what has been done, my research was very heavily based on looking on websites which show off the conventions and theories of teaser trailers. Videos may have been more beneficial, because the conventions would be easier to convey through actual footage, rather than a block of words. This had the potential to make my research quicker and more streamlined.

6) Creativity definition Creativity can have two separate definitions,

depending on what side you look at it from. On one hand, you could say that creativity is the

act of taking a concept or idea that already exists, and then interpreting it into your own production.

On the other hand, creativity could also be defined as the act of coming up with brand new original ideas and creating something that has never been seen before. Both definitions can be used interchangeably.

7) Are our AS and A2 productions creative?I believe that our AS and A2 productions are both creative pieces, but only when you look from the perspective that creativity is the idea that you take existing ideas and interpreting it into something of your own. This is because both of our productions are highly conventional, with the intention for the audience to feel comfortable with what they are viewing. However, we did challenge some conventions, such as the mise en scene in the AS production, which could arguably mean we fall into the ‘original content’ category of creativity.
