Front CoverThe masthead is a bright red
colour and situated in the Left Third to instantly draw
newcomers and existing readers to the magazine. The masthead is consistent across all of Q’s media,
including it’s website and radio station.
The cover picture is of a very main stream artist and covers
part of the masthead. This suggests the cover artist is more important than the masthead. The
picture is not aggressive but is certainly not feminine. So appeals to the larger male to female ratio
audience Q receives.
The background behind the picture is a bright white which contrasts with the main picture and the masthead. None of the colours show any consistency
The cover title is a very eye catching colour but does not
match the male audience. However the chaotic nature of the layout is very much a male
stereotype. The hand written title in particular.
The pricing is in line with the affluent audience of the magazine
but also came with a free CD which is aimed at the male
audience. Sunday, 27 November 11
Contents PagesThe contents has a very simple layout with eye catching red and white
contrast linked with their consistent masthead.
The pictures on the contents page are very
masculine with only male artists appearing and
images which are related to masculinity such as
graffiti and tattoos.
The Q Magazine slogan “Discover Great Music” is proudly displayed at the top of every Q contents page which aims directly at their target audience.
On the front cover although it was covered the ‘Discover” was still visible showing there
main mission.

Double Page Spread
The whole DPS is focused on the imagery of Superman with the blue and red colours. The red colours linked to the consistent colour scheme of the magazine. The imagery of a
superhero and the male artist are both masculine imagery focusing on the majority male audience. There is no pull quote but the subtitle starts with ‘super’ referencing the Superman
aspect of the article. The artist’s name is embolden to allow the reader to know who they are reading about immediately. The picture is uninterrupted except for a flash which
proclaims “Winner Breakthrough Artist” which links to the Q branded awards ceremony and the “Discover” of Q magazine’s slogan.
