Definition
Pyrex glass is a borosilicate glass. It is made by heating raw materials like silica sand and
boric oxide to extremely high temperatures for extended periods of time. When hot, it is
moulded into different shapes to be used later for different purposes. Pyrex has become an
important material for a variety of applications that require heat and chemical resistance.
Unlike other glasses, Pyrex has a low epansion characteristic.
Physical Properties
It has a high melting and boiling point. It is less dense than usual glass.More resistant to thermal shock.
It is brittle. It is a good conductor of heat but a bad
conductor of electricity.
Common uses
Labware Kitchenware Telescopes
