there are no problems we
cannot solve together,
and very few we can solve
by ourselves.
lyndon johnson.
eleanor roosevelt.
great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.
saturday 1/17/09on the day of my arrival i listened to two amazing women speak! lisa ling
and doris kearns goodwin.
Doris is a Pulitzer Prize winner. She gave us an insight
to our U.S. heritage, mainly
focusing on President Lincoln
and President Johnson.
Lisa Ling currently works for National
Geographic and Oprah Winfrey. Her speech
was about her life, and her accomplishments she’s made. She is a true example that
everyone is capable of achieving their dream.
sunday 1/18/09On my second day in d.c. I went to see General Colin
Powell and Archbishop Desmond Tutu speak in the morning. They were both
very fun to listen to and had great messages in their
speeches.
do your little bit of good
where you are; its those
little bits of good put
together that
overwhelm the world.
leadership is solving problems. the
day soldiers stop bringing you their
problems is the day you have stopped
leading them. they have either lost
confidence that you can help or
concluded you do not care. either case
is a failure of leadership. desmond tutu.colin powell.
sunday evening. After listening to Desmond Tutu and Colin Powell, we went to the presidential inaugural opening celebration and after leaving the Mall we went to see Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to climb Everst.
people get trapped into
thinking about just one way of
doing thingserik weihenmayer.
monday 1/19/09Monday morning I spent at University of Maryland. I had the
chance to listen to the Creative Coalition speak and also Al Gore, Former Vice President and Novel Peace Prize Winner.
no matter how hard the loss, defeat might serveas well as victory to shake the soul and let the glory out. al gore.
monday evening.Monday evening after listening to Al Gore speak, I
went on river cruise aboard the Spirit Of Mt. Vernon. After the cruise I attended two plays, the first
performed by the Reduced Shakespeare Company and the second by Capitol Steps.
leadership and learning are indispensible to each other. john f. kennedy.
tuesday morning.
and in the end, it’s not the years in
your life that count. it’s the life in your
years. abe lincoln.
Tuesday morning was a historic morning. Our first African-American president was sworn into office. I went to the Mall and listened to some of the ceremonies before the swearing in. Then I traveled to the Nationals ballpark and watched President Obama get sworn in.
tuesday evening.
Tuesday was my last official day in D.C. And in the last slide…that’s right that is Chris
Daughtry. We had our own private gala at the National Air and Space Museum in D.C.
and it was an absolute blast! (:
if your leadership inspires
others to dream more,
learn more, do more, and
become more, you are a
