Obituary

Barbara Lanat- Monica RushJune 20, 1973 – April 3, 2015

Barbara Lanat Monica Rush., the daughter given by the Lord to Dr. Lionel T. Rush and Elect Lady Beleta A. Butts, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 20, 1973 and went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2015. The span of her earthly pilgrimage was 41 years, nine month and 18 days. Today we rejoice in the knowledge that she has passed the barrier from time as we know

it and is forever at home with the Savior she faithfully served.

Barbara grew up in a musical family and attended True Victory Church of God in Christ (pastored by her father, Dr. Lionel T. Rush) in Indianapolis, Indiana, during her formative years. Bobbie was a member of the Sunshine Band, where she served as Miss Sunshine Band. She was also a member of the award winning True Victory COGIC Pastor’s Choir, (“Choir of the Year”,

1988 Mc Donald’s Gospel Fest. Additionally, Barbara served in ministry in the group, “Chosen “, which was a favorite on television & radio and was featured in the Musical,” A Song is Born” in 1991 (Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, COGIC National

Convention). Bobbie was saved, baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy Ghost at Christ Apostolic Temple, Des Moines, IA (pastored by Presiding Bishop Jeremiah Reed) in 2005. She served faithfully as a choir

member and singer/song writer. She also had a passion for fund raising for the Apostolic Oneness Network. No matter how she felt physically, you were sure to find her serving at the Temple.

Barbara, affectionalately known as Bobbie or Bobbalee, graduated from Lawrence North High School, Indianapolis, Indiana (Class of 1993). She never used her illness as an excuse to underachieve. A teacher once told Bobbie that she really didn’t

expect her to graduate, because she had Sickle Cell Anemia. Bobbie took those words to heart as she walked by that teacher during her graduation precession with a B+ average. Barbara later attended Tougaloo College in Tougaloo,

Mississippi. Barbara worked along with her sisters at INET for the city of Indianapolis and was featured in the Emmy nominated short movie entitled, “Endangered Species”. Additionally, Barbara had great interest in modeling and poetry.

Bobbie was a nurturer and a giver, who would often give her last to help others. Although she was sick, she used her stays in the hospital to witness and win souls for Christ. She was often called to encourage other patients and staff members in

times of need. Bobbie was always cool and always fashionable. No one could ever forget those pretty eyes, her cocoa skin, and a smile that would light up any room. Barbara had great mother wit and would tell you just like it was, whether you

wanted to hear it or not. She was Granny’s girl. Her favorite saying from Granny were, “Hang in there and Keep Hope Alive”.

For her life, love, generosity, beauty, poetic gifting and song, we say, “To God be the Glory!”

Barbara Lanat- Monica was preceded in death by grandparents, Pastor James and Mo. Geneva Rush, Mo. Alice Rush, R.V. Moss, sister, Beleta Lynne Rush, and nephew, John Martin Tyson Jr.
