With a 75,000-lb bit load capacity, the Pit Viper series can add unsurpassed productivity to your mining operation.

At Atlas Copco, our unwavering commitment to the mining industry has led to some of the most productive and innovative drills in use today. A prime example of that commitment is the Pit Viper series of drills, available in a single-pass version with the PV-271 or a multi-pass version with the PV-275 drill.

The PV-270 series utilizes proven systems and technology, so you won’t be sur-prised at its reliability — or how easily it fits into your drilling operation. Whether you’re mining metals, coal, or industrial minerals, the PV-271 and PV-275 meet your needs for efficient, powerful drilling.

The CabThe PV-270 series cab is engineered to keep the operator safe and comfortable. Designed and tested to the same Falling Object Protective Structure (FOPS) standard as dozers, the cab protects operators against falling objects. Large windows ensure clear visibility while drilling and tramming from hole to hole.

Cable Feed SystemDerived from the Atlas Copco PV-351, the automatic cable tensioning on the Pit Viper series ensures accurate head alignment, improves cable life, and eliminates drill downtime for cable tensioning. The PV-271 and PV-275 use a cable feed system because cables are lighter and less expensive than traditional chain feed systems. The cable also leads to smoother drilling, which helps increase the life of the bit and feed system.

The TowerThe PV-271 and PV-275 are designed to handle 6-1/4” to 7-5/8” drill rods. The cable feed system utilizes a dual rod/dual piston cylinder and offers high feed speeds for increased productivity.• The PV-271 offers a 55-ft single-pass tower with a total depth capacity of 105 ft through a 2-rod carousel with 25-ft rods.• The PV-275 offers a multi-pass tower with 195-ft depth capacity through a 4-rod carousel with 40-ft rods.

Leading the way with superior engineering.

Structural Integrity

The 24-in by 162 ft-lb I-beam frame fabrication offers a lower center of gravity for less drilling vibration and increased durability, and is almost twice as heavy per foot as the DM-M2 frame (24-in by 84 ft-lb).

Operator’s Console

The ergonomic PV-270 series console is designed to ensure operator comfort. The controls are logically separated into drilling and non-drilling functions, making the PV-271 and PV-275 easy to oper-ate. The drilling functions are angled to allow for easy visibility of the drill table, while large cab windows ensure that the operator has clear visibility, further enhancing the safety of the machine.

Air Compressor

Both the PV-271 and PV-275 are available with an Ingersoll-Rand low-pressure 1,900 cfm/110 psi air compressor or 2600 cfm/110 psi for rotary tricone drilling or a high-pres-sure 1,450 cfm/350 psi compressor for down-the-hole hammer drilling applications. A free 5-year/10,000 - hour compressor warranty is standard with every Ingersoll-Rand compressor.*

Efficient CoolingThe side-by-side cooler design of the PV-271 and PV-275 is rated for 125 degrees Fahrenheit (51.7 Celsius) ambi-ent operating temperatures and features four sections to provide cooling for the engine, airend, hydraulic system, and turbocharger. The cooler is located at the non-drill end of the machine to provide easy service ability, improve airflow, and reduce noise around the cab.

Productive designs for a productive operation.Productivity at a mine is always important. Your entire operation depends on the drill. If the drill doesn’t produce, the rock can’t be blasted, loaded, and hauled. That’s why we’ve gone the extra mile to ensure that the Pit Viper drills are the most reliable and productive in the 75,000-lb class.

Optional Four Jack System*Four jacks act as three on the new Pit Viper series of drills. Two drill end jacks operate independently, while the two non-drill end jacks act as one to make set-up easy and provide excellent stability.

*Option not part of standard configuration.

Auxiliary Breakout Wrench Breaking tight joints can waste precious drilling time when drill production is required. The Pit Viper series auxiliary breakout wrench can be operated from the cab and allows tight joints to be broken quickly and easily.

Hose ManagementTo ensure that hydraulic and air hoses are not damaged during drilling and tramming opera-tions, the PV-271 and PV-275 feature a traveling hose tray which ensures that the hoses remain in place at all times, even in difficult drilling or tram-ming conditions. The result is increased hose life and no more catching on the tower or rotary head.
