2. Open up the journal, and on the inside of the hard cover, write the following:

Yes, CHNOPS!

What does it stand for??

CHNOPS = Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Phosphorus, Sulfur*

These six elements make up 98% of the mass of all living organisms*

Note the star! When you see this symbol, it means take a note

in your journal!

Note! You don’t have to write the notes word-for-word. You should paraphrase/use symbols to take notes quickly!

Element = simplest form of a pure substance (aka they cannot be broken down)

Elements are made of atoms = smallest part of an element that still has the properties of an element
