1st Week- Slavery and Civil War
1861-1865 (time of the Civil War) Was fought between the North and the
South The North was known as the Union The South was known as the
Confederates There were boarder states in between
(review which states belonged where)

Indentured Servants- worked off their debt for a period of time; debt came from their “boss” paying for their transportation to the United States.
Who were indentured servants? What role did Abraham Lincoln and
Jefferson Davis play?

2nd Week- Star Unit
Constellations- internationally known group of stars that have been named, made up of asterisms.
Asterisms- grouping of stars that are recognized in the sky.
What do different color stars tell us? Follow the Drinking Gourd Name some constellations
3rd Week- Poetry
What is poetry? What do we know about poetry? Examples of poetry Does it always rhyme? How long are poems? Can songs be poems? Nonsense words, context clues, &
stanzas.
3rd Week- Jabberwocky
What does dissecting a poem mean?
What did we do to the poem to help us better understand it?
How should you read a poem? Do poems have to make
sense? Central theme, characters, and
grammar.
4th Week- Acting out Poems What three things did we keep in mind,
or assign as tasks, for the poem presentation.
Name things that worked well and did not work well with our presentations.
Name types of costumes that you created.
