The method of converting fax signal into IP packet
1.Qualifying as voice “G.711 Inband”
It put the fax signal into the IP packet as a voice and sends it.
1) Operation The VoIP (Voice over IP) gateway digitalizes the signal of G3 FAX with PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) and it processes it as a voice.
2) Merit The signal of G3 FAX is carried as well as the voice.
3) Demerit - The band width is necessary about 80k-90k bit per second to carry the signal of G3 FAX as well as the voice. - The fax signal is sensitive for the packet delay and packet loss.
Actually, it happens that the fax cannot send even though you can talk.

Support T.38 - 4
2. Using the special protocol "T.38"
1) Operation It converts the signal of T.30(G3 FAX) into the message which provides with T.38 and puts into the IP packet and sends and receives it.
2) Merit - G3 FAX can be sent and received by narrow band width. - It is strong in the packet delay and packet loss. (It is possible to communicate even if there are some delays, if an each message reaches correctly, because it sends the message by the IP packet.)
3) Demerit The fax gateway of the destination should have the T.38 protocol.

(4)Procedure<Step 1> G3 FAX machine (Source) calls G3 FAX machine (Destination) through T.38 gateway.
<Step 2> T.38 gateway calls G3 FAX machine by using H.323/SIP protocol. (It is the same as the processing of IP telephone. )
<Step 3> It operates according to T.38 protocol.- T.38 gateway sends and receives data by the formatting of "IFP (internet facsimile protocol) packet". (The field of carrying the information of G3 FAX signal is defined with IFP packet.)- T.38 gateway (Source side) converts into the message of IFP packet, and it sends the fax signal which G3 FAX machine (Source) sent.- IFP packet reaches T.38 gateway (Destination side) through the IP network.- The gateway converts the IFP packet to the signal of G3 FAX and transmits it to the G3 FAX machine (Destination).
