National Chromium offers hard chromium plating that can be applied from .00005” thick to .035” and beyond, for tough wear resistance enhancement. They have tanks capable of plating 16’ long parts up to 2 tons in weight.

They also offer Electroless Nickel, in rack or barrel application, available for non-porous, uniform layers starting from .00005” to .002” thick.

Lastly, they offer Micro-Tuff TM which is a process to add high corrosion resistance, wear resistance and high lubricity to plated or un-plated surfaces.

generations may only have vaguely heard about. This was the era of Big Bands playing swing across America. Music in the home was brought in via radio or the old faithful 78 RPM phonograph record. The needles, even though just 10¢ a tin of 100, were a constant cause of frustration since they would wear quickly, and beside producing poor, scratchy sound when dulled, they wore the records out. Norman Trudeau, a young chemist in Putnam, set up a plating company and started chrome plating needles and thus the birth of National Chromium.

Soon after that, WWII came and there was a need for hard chrome plating on submarine torpedo shafts, tools, dies, gauges and jigs and typewriter parts. National Chromium answered the war effort call and took up the task to offer solutions. In 2016, it’s that same determination to offer their customers solutions, just like Norman Trudeau wanted to offer scratch free, good quality music back 75 years ago.

National Chromium, led by John Miller, President, is staying current with state-of-the-art developments in electroplating technology. Customers can be assured their parts are being handled on the top-of-the-line equipment by fully trained and knowledgeable operators.

Manufacturer Makes Connections With State Legislator Government Grant Benefits Growing Business

Berlin, CT - August 10, 2016 -- Sirois Tool president Alan Ortner met last week with Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz after inviting him for a meeting and plant tour. They discussed fiscal and regulatory issues that affect small manufacturers in the state like Sirois Tool. Aresimowicz works on behalf of manufacturers on many of the issues that can help them develop and grow advanced manufacturing in Connecticut.

With the help of a state grant Sirois Tool received a few years ago, Ortner was able to build an addition to its manufacturing facility. The Sirois Tool expansion allows for continued capabilities improvements for customers, including the new electrical discharge machining (EDM) and wire EDM equipment.

Touring the plant with Aresimowicz to see Sirois Tool’s enhanced capabilities was his legislative advisor Liz Connelly, and CBIA’s (Connecticut Business and Industry Association) Bonnie Stewart and Nicole Cline. CBIA advocates for Connecticut’s businesses at the State Capitol to promote and protect the state’s economy.

Many state resources and programs are dedicated to helping manufacturers expand operations, make new equipment purchases, and grow their workforce. Resources that help small manufacturers to improve, transform, and grow their business also create new jobs.

As a critical first step in this process, Ortner directly engages with his state legislators, letting them know how government can better work for manufacturers. Working together, government agencies and the manufacturing industry can strengthen and change Connecticut’s manufacturing climate.
