President’s Corner By Spencer Shambray, CPPB
Greetings Chapter members! The 2014 NIGP Forum in Philadelphia, PA held in August lived up to everything that I personally expected. In particular, the educational offerings were EXCELLENT and the participation from the attendees during those sessions showed how much everyone enjoyed the Forum. The plenary session speakers were just as good as those of us who have attended a few of these Forums have come to expect. The information presented and the varied delivery styles kept everyone captivated. Why wouldn't they though after one juggled knives and literally did handstands and back flips and others kept attendees in stitches with making extremely good comedy out of our everyday tasks? However, the session speakers were not to be outdone by the plenary speakers and certainly their knowledge and professionalism came though in the sessions that I took part in. To be sure, the NIGP Forum is an educational bonanza that each and every NIGP member should do whatever it takes to attend at least once or twice during their professional career. There is absolutely no other way to have access to that many Procurement related professional educational offerings in just a few days. Not to mention, having the opportunity to network with people from around the country and beyond who share in our very specialized profession.

Continued from Page 1 President’s Corner The trade show was absolutely second to none. The sheer number and variety of vendors presenting there was amazing. I heard more than one comment from attendees saying that they had to attend both days to make the rounds to every booth that they needed to visit. Overall, I would say that the effort put forth to make these events happen is truly amazing. The host committee in Philadelphia and members of the NIGP board and various other committees that put everything together clearly took pride in what they were doing and everyone who attended should be happy to have had such an opportunity. It was certainly my please to represent our SE Florida chapter at the NIGP Forum and have the opportunity to rub shoulders with colleagues from the national organization and my colleagues, peers and friends from the local Chapter while there. My sincere appreciation goes out to my fellow board members, the committee members and all of our local Chapter members for the opportunity to serve you and the wonderful experience of attending the 2014 NIGP Forum as a representative of the Chapter. Thank you!
Spencer

Reverse Trade Show
The 2014 RTS is on the horizon… and we’re soliciting your help!
It’s almost that time again. Yes, it will soon be that morning when you
wake up extra early, take a few extra shots of espresso in your coffee,
arrive at the RTS venue to nibble a bagel and set up your agency’s table.
You may weave your way through the other agency tables to get some
ideas for future promotional products (“What! They have cell phone covers
this year?”). But most of all, you are prepared to have a hoarse voice by
day’s end from showing pride and speaking knowledge about your
agency, expanding your contact list and pondering innovative solutions
with the help of enthusiastic vendors.
To make it happen, the RTS takes considerable time and effort behind
the scenes. We are in need of day-of-event help for greeting, table set-
up and breakdown. Please email Chapter Vice President and Reverse
Trade Show Chair Lynn Kunkel at [email protected] to find
out how you can volunteer.

QUESTION OF THE
DAY
2014 Special

Are you planning to sit for the CPPB or CPPO exams in the near future? There are a number of ways to prepare for these challenging tests. Taking LEAP courses, obtaining the PREP Guides from the NIGP bookstore, participating in a study group or reviewing the material on your own are just some of the ways to prepare. For those of you who would like a little day to day inspiration and interaction right at your desktop, one of our members, David Nash, formerly with the City of Fort Lauderdale, sends out a Question of the Day by email. The questions come from a variety of sources and are half multiple choice and half essay. Each person responds directly to David and no one’s answers are ever shared with anyone else. And best of all, there is no charge to participate.
If you are interested in receiving these daily questions, check out http://www.qoftheday.net for complete information on the program and to register your contact information. If you have any questions after visiting the website, feel free to contact David by phone at 954-829-0421.
