What to ask the dealer before you purcahse discus fish?

Ask if you can see the fish being fed.

• If dealer says no leave• The discus fish should:– Swim quickly– Eat quickly

• If it doesn’t, don’t buy

How long have they had the fish?

• If buying from a discus fish breeder you don’t need to ask this

• If been kept for less than 2 weeks the fish hasn’t quarantine long enough; wait before buying

Where were the fish imported from?

• No need if buying from discus fish breeder• If dealer doesn’t know he doesn’t take his fish

serious – be warry of buying from him

Medications and De-worming

• Medications may point to diseases• If not de-wormed may introduce worms in

your aquarium– Warms are hard to cure!

Dealer’s tank water conditions

1. Give an advance payment if water is different from yours

2. Change your water conditions3. Buy fish4. Slowly adjust water conditions to the ideal

conditions for discus fish
