What does the issue entail??
A puppy mill is a place where puppies are bred for the purpose of turning a profit. Commercial kennels have also been called puppy mills.People have a problem with puppy mills because, in most situations, the animals are bred in an inhumane environment.

Example- In Tennesse around fifty small dogs and cats were found in terrible conditions. Many of them lacked food, water, and basic needs. They were confined to small cages and many had eye and skin infectins and parasites. The Humane Society of the United States rescued these animals and brought them to proper food, water, shelter, and medical care.
Sun Valley Kennel -400 Eskimo dogs at the home of Ella Stewart, 66, in Kennewick, Washington.-The officers "...found dogs living in wooden crates, shopping carts and other makeshift kennels caked with feces and soaked with urine"-"some of the dogs suffered from malnutrition, urine burns and overgrown claws."
Local Connections
The Humane Society and other animal rights groups have been working to create a law banning any relations with or existence of puppy mills in the sate of CA. Local council members are also working to ban such practices in there areas. On October 12, council members banned puppy mills in West Hollywood, prohibiting the sale of dogs from any retailer or source not certified as a humane provider. There is a group called “Stop Puppy Mills” that meets frequently in San Diego to protest at local pet stores that use/support puppy mills (if you are interested in participating!).
