Dear Fellow Travelers,

Traveling with the Platinum Passport Club has been my passion for the past 20 years! Every year has been extremely memorable, and 2018 was no exception for our travelers. For some, it was sunny Panama City, while others enjoyed America’s Music Cities last April. Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel was a great experience for many, as was cruising the Greek Islands for 13 days in October. The last tour of the year was Christmas on the Danube, a delightful river cruise and wonderful start to the holiday season!

What fun it is for the Platinum Passport Club to travel with friends we’ve known for years, as well so many new ones! We’re fortunate to do something that we thoroughly enjoy and are pleased to be able to offer you opportunities to make wonderful memories, check off items on your bucket list, and fulfill lifetime dreams.

Traveling with the Platinum Passport Club is easy and stress free. We strive to provide you worry-free, effortless travel. Just pack your bags and we do the rest to ensure you a most memorable trip.

If you haven’t joined us yet, or if you’re looking for your next fun adventure, we have several great trips lined up for the coming year. Whether it’s one of the great dinner/theatre trips

close to home, a winter escape to an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, a springtime experience to Bluegrass Country and the Smoky Mountains, or traveling to Canyon Country in the fall, there is sure to be something to please!

We hope to see you on a trip soon!

Gorgeous landscapes, artistic masterpieces, delicious food and wine—everything that makes Italy special!

ITALY’S Treasures

We begin our Italian tour on Lake Maggiore, surrounded by the exquisite beauty of the Alps. Here, we’ll visit a wine shop and enjoy some prima di cena snacks before cruising to the lovely Isola dei Pescatori for a welcome dinner.

The next day, we’ll explore Stresa, an ancient village nestled in the mountains, where a local family offers their very own artisanal cheese paired with the region’s best wines.

A mix of history and gorgeous views awaits us at Lake Orta, an ancient glacial lake in the Alpine foothills. From there, we’ll travel down the Liguria coast toward the town of Sestri Levante, before finding ourselves at Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Lucca, a medieval city encircled by sixteenth-century Renaissance walls, offers the chance to gather in ancient piazzas where people have been sharing stories, food, and wine for centuries.

Next stop: Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance. On our walking tour of this iconic city, we’ll take in a myriad of monuments and architectural accomplishments.

Does bluegrass music move your soul? Are you thrilled by the sight of racing Thoroughbreds? Are you excited to tour a bourbon distillery?

BLUEGRASS COUNTRY and the Smoky Mountains

Our tour of this remarkable corner of the country begins in Louisville, Kentucky, famous for Thoroughbreds, bourbon, and baseball! We’ll stay two nights in this thriving city and enjoy visits to Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby Museum, and Old Louisville, a historic neighborhood that hosts the largest concentration of Victorian mansions in the Unites States. You’ll also have the choice between visiting the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory to learn all about our nation’s

favorite pastime, or the Frazier Kentucky History Museum, with its new Spirit of Kentucky exhibit, the official start of the Bourbon Trail.

The next day, we’ll travel to Lexington, stopping at Buffalo Trace on the way to explore the oldest continuously operating bourbon distiller in America. We’ll also visit the first town in Kentucky to be founded by a railroad. And, of course, we’ll see lots of horses here in horse country and even visit a horse farm for a first-hand experience of these majestic creatures.

Featuring Louisville, Gatlinburg & Asheville April 16–24, 2020

We’ll make our way south, stopping in Berea, known as the arts and crafts center of Kentucky, where we’ll meet artisans as they demonstrate their craft. After lunch at Boone Tavern, we’ll travel to Gatlinburg via the Daniel Boone National Forest, named, of course, for the iconic American pioneer who blazed a trail through these rugged, wild lands.

Gatlinburg is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains! We’ll take a tour of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which serves as home to one of Earth’s most diverse ecosystems and the largest deciduous forest in eastern United Sates. Our ultimate destination here? Newfound Gap, which boasts views of both sides of the Smoky Mountains. Later, we’ll enjoy a tour and tasting at the Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery, and that night, we’ll be treated to the lively

Dolly Parton’s Stampede Dinner Show for music, dancing, and professional equestrians performing incredible stunts on horseback.

The next day, you decide how to spend your day of leisure! Maybe you want to revisit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Or perhaps you’d like to head to Pigeon Forge and experience Dollywood for all things Dolly Parton!

Nest stop—Asheville, North Carolina! We’ll explore this quaint, artsy city nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains before heading to the Biltmore Estate, a sprawling mansion and manicured grounds built by George Vanderbilt II, who wanted “a little mountain escape.” We’ll enjoy a wine-tasting at the historic Biltmore Winery while imagining we are still in the Gilded Age of America. Later, we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant and fly home the next day, infused with the sights, sounds, and smells of America’s Southeast.

We begin with a welcome dinner in Scottsdale, Arizona, before traveling the next day to start our trip in stunning Sedona, where we can browse the arts and crafts shops at the marketplace and explore Oak Creek Canyon, where incredible rock formations change hue with every turn in the road. Later, we’ll make our way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon via the spectacular Kaibab National Forest.

The next day, we devote ourselves to the majesty of the Grand Canyon, what Theodore Roosevelt once described as “one of the great sights which every American, if he can travel at all, must see.” We’ll travel in Roosevelt’s footprints along the East Rim Drive and be treated to those same views. Later, we’ll stop at the historic Cameron Trading Post, which has served as a haven for travelers, traders, and explorers for nearly a century, before continuing north through the mesa-studded desert to arrive at our home away from home for the next two evenings. Take in the stunning blue waters of Lake Powell, and enjoy an early dinner there.

The next day, we’ll take a breakfast cruise on Lake Powell and then we choose: a canyon adventure cruise through wondrous

geological formations OR a tour of Navajo Nation, including a stop at Monument Valley Tribal Park, a sacred Navajo land featuring iconic sandstone spires. Whichever you choose, your day will be thrilling.

Then, it’s on to Bryce Canyon National Park, famous for its hoodoos, orange and red rock formations created over millennia by wind and water. Enjoy a walk along the Sunset Point to Sunrise Point Rim Trail.

Even grander sights await us the next day when we explore the natural wonder of Zion National Park’s red and white sandstone cliffs. Utah’s first national park, Zion offers visitors an open-air tram that winds its way alongside the Virgin River and through the 2,400-foot-deep, one-half-mile-wide Zion Canyon. It’s an experience of a lifetime! Later, you have the choice of visiting the Zion Human History Museum or continuing to explore the great outdoors independently.

On our last full day, we’ll trade the wonders of the natural world for the neon lights and round-the-clock action of a different kind of wonder—the Vegas strip! Enjoy yourselves before we head home the next day with our eyes still wide from the sweeping views.

Explore the most famous canyons of the American West on a journey featuring not one but three national parks!

TRAVELER SPOTLIGHT

Norma and Byron Young

We have been traveling with the Mascoma Bank Platinum Passport Club for more than a decade and a half. Our first overnight trip was to Hyannis, Massachusetts, to see the Boston Pops by the Sea. It was a great experience and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Since then, we have decided to broaden our knowledge of the world through travel and have participated in day trips, mystery trips, and many longer, logistically challenging trips, including a trip to Ireland, a European riverboat cruise in the Netherlands, larger cruise ship journeys to Norway and the Baltic capitals, and most recently, a riverboat cruise on the Danube River, beginning in Germany and ending in Austria. We have also enjoyed several land-based travel tours to Cuba, Panama, and Colorado.

Our two favorite adventures were the European small boat cruises, which allowed ample time to tour and hike the cities and towns we visited along the way while we immersed ourselves in the history and culture they offer.

With the utmost professionalism and care, Doreen and Sue attend to every detail of the trips they arrange along with the personal needs of all the travelers. Free from the worries and hassle of spending hours researching and arranging the logistics of any given journey, we only need to write the check, get on board, and relax. We are eager to get started on our next adventure later this summer, which will take us to Iceland, the land of volcanoes, hot springs, and horses.

When not traveling, we enjoy hobbies such as old cars, fishing, kayaking, bicycling, and gardening, and most of all spending time with our three grandchildren who live nearby. Perhaps they will travel with us and the Mascoma Bank Platinum Passport Club sometime in the future!

A Minute With

My current duties at Mascoma Bank: I manage the West Lebanon Mascoma Bank branch

and work a staff of five amazing people. Of my 40 years spent at Mascoma, I have worked in the West Lebanon Office for 26 of them.

My years with Mascoma Bank: I am in my 41st year at the bank. I have had the opportunity to witness the bank evolve into what it is today. Wow!!! I have been able to watch the old ways of doing things with paper and great big machines change into the efficient, computerized business we have now.

What I love about my job: Mascoma Bank gets involved with and does so much for

our community. I am always proud to tell people what we do. I also love the fact that

I get to take part in functions and volunteer my time to the organizations we sponsor.

Something you may not know about me: I was born and raised in

Lebanon, New Hampshire. I love this area and can’t imagine

living any place else. My husband and I love to go to our camp and spend time in the woods watching wildlife. I am a very busy person—beyond the bank, my husband and I own a commercial carpet cleaning business. I enjoy work! Summer and fall are my favorite times of year.

Valerie and Dana Roy We joined the Mascoma Platinum Passport Club to meet new people and do some traveling. We have met many great people and made some new friends! The traveling has been extremely pleasant. It is wonderful to be free of the stress we would have if it weren’t for Doreen and Sue. They do a wonderful job and go above and beyond their job!

When we are not traveling, we enjoy our property, snowmobiling, ATVing and having friends and family visiting (especially our 2 wonderful little granddaughters).

PLATINUM PASSPORT CLUB TRAVEL POLICIES

Health Policy

On Platinum Passport Club trips, it is required that persons needing assistance be accompanied by a companion who is capable of and totally responsible for providing that assistance. Neither Mascoma Bank personnel nor its suppliers may assist with medications or physically lift or assist clients onto transportation vehicles. Travelers needing special assistance for anything other than personal needs must notify Platinum Passport Club at the time of booking to determine what assistance may reasonably be made available.

Reservation Policy

A deposit is required upon reservation to guarantee your place for any Platinum Passport Club event. If you make your reservation by telephone, please submit your deposit check within 10 days. Make checks for all trips payable to Mascoma Bank Platinum Passport Club.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation insurance is available on all extended trips and is highly recommended for travel. Should it be necessary to cancel before any trip, we request as much notice as possible. A refund of your deposit, in full or in part, will be made if you cancel prior to the final payment date and if:

• There is a waiting list of members and we can fill your vacancy.

• There are no cancellation penalties charged by our vendors.

If you cancel after the final payment date, any refund will be determined by the vendors and their penalty policies. If there is not a waiting list, it is your responsibility to resell your tickets. We have very few cancellations and do appreciate your willingness to be placed on a waiting list.
