PNB is running FI projects at 75

locations.

Nine different technology providers’

solution are being tried

PNB having a customer base of around 2510000 under Financial Inclusion project.

Un Banked / Under banked locations / villages will be identified (approx 60000)Each unit shall have the following infrastructure•Kiosk shall be operating with:

• One self operated (Touch Screen) system with IBS, Internet, e-learning & Govt. tax collection etc, feature.•One BF shall operate the same.

• One Thin Client connected to CBS for banking transactions.

•Bank’s executive – Customer services assistance , shall man the CBS/ Banking counter .

Kiosk will be atLocations withoutBranch or at a distance more than15 kms ( say 30kms)from the existing PNB branch.

•KIOSK based center will be HUB with BF and PNB CSA•Branch and Kiosk Model along with FI-BC , the entire Indo gangetic belt can be covered.

Kiosk – Functionality has been tested for cheque acceptance.

Technology Components (Back End)

Intermediary Server of BC in DMZ (De-militarised zone) of the Bank.

The BCs Integrated POS to communicate to the intermediary server of BC.

BCs Server shall communicate to Bank’s intermediary server.

Bank’s intermediary Server will also be in DMZ, which shall communicate with the Core Banking System.

Current Process

• BC agent, POS machine, Geography are uniquely identified

• Security key for security of banking application, authentication process etc,.

• Daily BOD & EOD of each POS with the Tech. solution provider server and between tech. solution provider server and Bank server

• Encrypted data file transmission between the tech. solution provider server and Banks intermediate server.

• Transaction de duplication and other validation at the Banks intermediate server

• File format for data exchange between Bank and Tech. solution provider

• Reconciliation of balance outstanding with customers once in a quarter ( independent of BC agent)






According to RBI Annual Monetary Policy 2007-08 SLBC Convener banks has to set up “Financial Literacy–cum-Counseling Centre’s” having the objective of imparting financial education to the rural masses. PNB SLBC Convener at Punjab & Haryana

Opened 7 FLCCs in all Lead Districts of Punjab. And 2 FLCCs in Lead Districts of Haryana.

Using these centers we educate:Consumers/investors about the financial products and empower them to undertake risks in an informed manner. Guide them to understand the technology as well as the financial services behind the transactions.

Customers guided to manage their money betterbuild trust in ICT-based financial services increase the adoption and usage of new banking technologies

Training programmes for BC agents for creating awareness regarding:

Roles and responsibilities of BCHow to conduct meetings to create awareness at the village levelAccount opening process and filling of account opening formsAwareness about the bank’s products and servicesMeaning and implications of KYS normsConducting awareness meets in the field with the customersExpectations of the bank from themExtension of FI coverage

Awareness programmes are conducted for the following officials:

Financial Coordinators of the Bank (presently there are 3 FI coordinators looking after 9 States and one UT covering 32 Circle Offices)Base Branch IncumbentsLead District ManagersCircle Office Financial Inclusion Coordinators (All 58 Circles)

The concept is to “TRAIN THE TRAINER”. These trained persons further conduct awareness programmes for their fellow bankers in the branches under their jurisdiction, training managers in the training colleges, etc

Further, in all the training programmes in the Training colleges of the bank, half day or one day is reserved for financial inclusion awareness sessions.

PNB Farmers’ Welfare Trust has 8 Farmers’ Training Centers while PNB Centenary Rural Development Trust (another Trust sponsored by the Bank), has three Training Units. All these Centers/Units along with giving training to farmers and rural youth also create awareness about the financial inclusion initiatives of the bank.

The bank has Vendors’ Meet of all its Technological providers on regular basis to bring further improvements in technological solutions.

FINANCIAL INCLUSION IN NORTH-EAST

Bank has tied up with Kabongram Asa Kashung Shang Social Upliftment Society (KAKSSUS), an NGO to enlarge micro-finance activities to farmers spread in the States of Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. This NGO has been appointed as BC of the bank for sourcing and management of agricultural loans and carrying out financial inclusion activities in the above States.
