She was born Dec. 5, 1967, in Pu- laski, and was a devot- ed mother and a mem- ber of Wales Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Feb. 1 in the chapel of Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home with Kevin Wells and Nick King of- ficiating. JOHN W. (PETE) MCFARLAND Mr. John W. McFarland, 89, of Greencastle, died Jan. 28, 2013, at Asbury Towers. Born Aug. 16, 1923, in Elkton, he was the son of the late Henry and Ad- die (Gowan) McFarland. He was an Army Aircorp veteran having served in WWII and was a Techni- cal Sargent serving on the Gold Coast of Africa. Mr. McFarland attended Martin College where he met his wife, Nancy (Elliott) Mc- Farland, sharing 65 years together. He furthered his education receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from De- Pauw University, his PhD from Vanderbilt University and his post-doctoral study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was em- ployed as a research Chem- ist with DuPont Chemical for six years in Wilmington, Del., prior to coming to DePauw University, where he taught in the Chem- istry Department for 33 years retiring Emeritus in 1994. Mr. McFarland had also served as pastor in the Methodist churches in Car- bon, Fillmore, Canaan, and Bainbridge. He was a mem- ber of the Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity, Kiwanis, and a member for over 50 years of the Ameri- can Chemical Society. He had also been active with Habitat for Humanity. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, four sisters and two brothers. Memorial services were held Feb. 2 at Gobin Me- morial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. P.T. Wilson officiating. Mrs. Pope is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ruth Garrett McNeese; brother James Malcolm McNeese; and sister Fran- ces Hall. DUDLEY BARBER Mr. Dudley Barber, 86, of Mt.Pleasant, S.C., died Jan. 30, 2013, at his home. Mr. Barber was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Aspen Hill, and was the son of the late Maybon and Lerlene Petty Barber. A veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he was an Office Manager Specialist at the Pentagon in Washington, DC and various other government agencies for 33 years. He was awarded various Civil Service awards for his dedi- cation and distinguished service to the Federal Government. He was well loved by his family, espe- cially his grandchildren. Mr. Barber was a member of Fairlington Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, Va., where he resided for many years. He is preceded in death by his wife Lois Jane Barber; and brother Charles Barber. Mrs. Helen Rose Strick-land, 86, of Pulaski, died Feb. 2, 2013, at Meadow-brook Nursing Facility Pulaski.

S h e w a s born July 31, 1926, in Pu-laski and was a member of the East Hill Church of Christ and a former em-ployee of Morris Harwell & Son. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray-mond and Annie Lou Goetz Rose; husband Roy E. Strick-land; sister Lacy Russell; and brothers, David Rose, R.C. Rose and Robert Rose.

Funeral services were held yesterday (Monday) in the chapel of Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home with Paul Sain and Mark Johnson officiating. Burial was in Giles Memory Gardens.

Mr. Edward George Gor-don, 59, of Lewisburg died Jan. 29, 2013, in that city.

He was born Oct. 11, 1953, in Allegan, Mich., was a Ma-rine Veteran and employed at General Motors. He is pre-ceded in death by his parents, Earl George Gordon and Mildred Stephens Gordon.

She was born June 10, 1916, in Ardmore, Ala., and was the daughter of the late William Alex Shannon and the late Maudie Pearl Heard Shannon. She is preceded in death by her husband J.L. Beach; daughter Reba Cassity; and sisters, Olevie Fulton and Jennie Rogers.
