Welcome to Pukekohe High School

A positive place of learning

At Pukekohe High School we will work hard with learners, their parents and whanau, to prepare for academic success.

We will help learners to create pathways that will lead to success at school and in the future.

Our vision is to be a positive place of learning where people are challenged and equipped to fulfil their potential and to achieve their aspirations.

Subjects that expand from year 9 into specialist subjects in the senior school.

A subject range which gives rise to career opportunities and further

study. Student-centred classrooms where teachers know their learners

and students are supported.

The Te Kotahitanga programme which develops respectful relationships–manaakitanga.

The Junior Diploma which develops foundational skills and habits

that lead to NCEA success. The careers programme which helps learners develop clear career

goals and pathways to reach success. Specific learning needs are addressed by providing support as

needed.

Our 2011 success stories: More than 75% of our senior students achieved an NCEA qualification

More than 26% of our students achieved NCEA at Merit or Excellence level.

11 Scholarship awards including an outstanding scholarship award

and how to remedy these. They concentrated on my child’s least favourites and subjects she is struggling

with and gave lots of suggestions.

• Learners belong to one of five houses

where their academic, emotional and physical support is fostered.

• The form teacher has a close and caring

relationship with their learners and is themost important point of contact for

parents. • A dean who leads each house and is assisted by a member of the leadership team.

• Academic Conferences foster ako by creating a partnership between parents, the school and the learner. By working together we help the learner reach their potential at school. • We welcome and encourage contact between parents and whanau. • Our skilled counselling team provides personal counselling and support.

• Our Health Centre provides first-aid emergency services, healthcare, and advice.

Being a “positive place of learning” is at the core of our philosophy.

By providing a range of learning experiences, Pukekohe High School encourages its students to develop a positive attitude towards learning and become “confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners”.

The Pukekohe High School Prospectus provides insights into the learning experiences that we provide and the opportunities for students to become involved. These are described in the three areas of:

How we teach. The practices we adopt to engage our learners and the extensive curriculum that as a big school we are able to provide as we prepare our students for their world of work and further learning at the end of their school years.

The opportunities that we provide. The learning experiences that can be gained through involvement in sports, music, the performing arts, cultural groups, and outdoor pursuits are invaluable when developing connected and involved learners. Students are able to experience a vast range of activities and achieve personal goals at the beginner level to national and international competitions.

The support we give. We encourage our students to become “connected” members of our school community through their identity as members of a form group, a house, and in different levels of leadership throughout the school.

To develop positive attitudes towards learning, students need to be involved.
