PUEBLO INTERAGENCY
DISPATCH CENTER2018 End of Year Report
Narrative◦ 2018 was an above average year for activity throughout the zone. Both Kansas and Colorado fuel conditions
showed severe drought levels with high fire danger. Record setting low fuel moistures were identified in SE Colorado which continued throughout the year.
◦ The first recorded fire was January 1st for one acre on the Pike National Forest. The first large fire occurred in Pueblo County for 1400 acres at the End of January. The first Ty 2 Incident Management Team was order in March for the MM117 incident in El Paso County. On June 27 the third largest fire in Colorado History the Spring Fire (108,027 acres) started followed by Weston Pass (13,023 acres) and Chateau (1423). During that 72 hours – Pueblo Dispatch mobilized and supported 3 type 3 IMT, 3 Type 2 IMT and 1 Type 1 IMT
◦ Colorado Federal Agencies continued to request support for Initial Attack through September. Success in providing these request came from Federal and State agencies who provided replacement crewmember keeping that resource on the unit for extended periods of time.
◦ Pueblo Interagency Dispatch Center started bringing support in March for both Initial Attack and Expanded. A total of 100 dispatchers were brought in from February to October to support activity within Pueblo Zone. Long term assignments into PIDC provided success for our operations and consistency for agency managers.
◦ As large fire activity lessened in Pueblo Zone – resources were open to support out of area incidents; during 2018 we filled a total of 1395 (crew, engine and overhead) orders to support the U.S.
◦ Going into the fire season PIDC was not fully staffed, Tiphaine Barter moved into the BLM Lead (GS-7) Dispatch position; and two GS-5 permanent positons remained unstaffed. We were able to hire 3 seasonals and hope to fill 2 GS – 5 13/13 positions in 2019.
