Effective Navaratri Sadhana for Opening Blocked Energy Channels

Translated from Pragya Abhiyaan (Fortnightly Newsletter), 1st March 2007, Page 2

Traditional Sadhana – New VisionSince prehistoric times, India has been praying

to the Goddess of Divine Energy. In the DeviSookta (10.125) of Rig Veda, the Goddess of Eternal Divine Energy has herself described her expanse and importance. Everyone knows that energy is never destroyed it keeps taking hidden or visible form from time to time. Therefore, according to the Vedas, Energy always remains new.

This time is extremely important for the Upasana (prayer) of Divine Energy. According to Revered Gurudev, the destiny of human race is to be written afresh. This will be achieved by visible or invisible actions of various streams of Eternal Divine Energy only. They make appropriate persons-sadhaks (persons doing penance for self-refinement) the mediums for achieving their required tasks. Therefore, in this wide ranging experiment innumerable sadhaks can be benefited by divine boons and blessings. However, for getting these blessings it is extremely importantRam Navami – 26th March

2Knowledge is indestructible. Once gained it never leaves one in any situation.

“That, which is visible to the common man in the form of material energy (jad-shakti), by its worship itself it has been possible for human beings to understand physiology, gain knowledge about subtle life-forms (pret-vidyaa), cure diseases, prevent epidemics, store food, adopt various methods of earning wealth, invent weapons for wars, etc.

Similarly, by the worship of mental energyhuman beings have developed psychology, poetics, self-control, marriage system, culture, morality, society, politics, etc. By the awakening of spiritual energy human beings have mastered resources such as asceticism (brahmcharya), truth, contentment, peace of mind, etc., as well as supreme endeavor (param purushaarth) too, which is capable of solving all the difficulties (sarvabaadhaa vinirmuktaroop). … In all the Eras, the level of devotion and amount in which human beings have worshipped any form of Divine Energy, proportionately they have go the results. The saadhaks (people practicing penance and self-refinement) of the present Era have also demonstrated the same fact.

Holistic Saadhanaa, No PretensionRevered Gurudev has again and again drawn

our attention towards the Eternal principle of attainment of Divine virtues (siddhi) through saadhanaa (penance for self-refinement). Siddhi(divine virtues) can only be attained by adopting a holistic approach towards worship, and not just by performing some pretentious rituals. In Shrimadbhagvad Gita (18/14) it is stated that the use of following five elements is essential for accomplishing and work or saadhanaa:-adhishtthaanam tathaakartaa, kaaranam cha prithak vidham|Vividhaashcha prithak cheshtaa, daiv chaivaatra panchamam||Meaning: For accomplishing any work or saadhanaa, coordination of the following five things is necessary - 1. appropriate place, 2. laborious worker, 3. use of all the sense organs, 4. trying again and again, and 5. fate (daiv). Clarifying this fact, Swaami Saaradaanand jiwrites:-

“All the things that need to be present in order to obtain a specific results, must be present at the same time. Even though this fact is so simple, often people forget it. We have totally forgotten this fact in our country. The result is obvious. Our

for a person to understand and include in the personal sadhana (penance for self-refinement) practices their eternal discipline and the corresponding currently visible form.

Revered Gurudev has written a lot in this regard. (Thakur Ramkrishna Paramhans’ companion Swami Sardanand ji has written in the booklet “Bharat Me Shakti Puja” (Praying to the Divine Energy in India) that in the present times saadhaks should understand this essential saadhanaand take appropriate benefit from it. He writes, “Praying to nav prabodhit (expressed in a new form) Energy will now be preached in the world again. India will again benefit from praying to the Eternal Divine Energy (brahm-shakti) expressed by Lord Shriramkrishna Paramhans, and will benefit other nations also. Therefore, this is the appropriate time for talking about shakti-tatva(basic concepts related to the Divine Energy) and shakti-puja (praying to the Divine Energy).

Adopt Correct VisionThis nav prabodhit (expressed in a new form)

Energy has been called Yug-Shakti (Ultimate strength of the Era) by Yug-Rishi (Saint of the Era – Revered Gurudev). As per the needs of the world, the Divine Energy keeps expressing its various forms through appropriate Saadhaks(people practicing penance and self-refinement). In this context Swaami Saaradaanand writes:

“Such people whose body-mind nourish hidden Divine Energy over long periods of time, or through whom the visible Divine Energy is manifested in the form of realistic actions, we are force to establish these people on high altars out of reverence and devotion. These people are inventors in the material world (jad-raajya). They are philosophers in the mental field (mano-raajya), and in the spiritual field (dharma-raajya) they are enlightened saints or incarnations in purified human form.”

It is clear that the current Era changing flow and mode of action of the Divine Energy has manifested through Yug Rishi (Saint of the Era, Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya). However, several other streams of this Energy, in small or large quantities, are also flowing in various other forms. We can very well understand it through wisdom filled sight. Swaami Saaradaanand jiclarifies this fact by writing:-

the Re-construction of the Era) has come forward and very earnestly accepted this responsibility. As a result extraordinary success was achieved in attaching the masses to The Super Science and Supreme Knowledge of Gayatri. However, it seems that our worship of the Divine Energy (shakti-saadhanaa) has got stuck somewhere. When people have started having big-big hopes and expectations from us, then we are not being able to take up the responsibilities of the next level as strongly as is needed. Definitely, somewhere our saadhanaa is also becoming unilateral. The desired effect is not appearing.

Satisfy the Mother, Get BoonsMother, the Eternal Divine Energy, is

extremely compassionate, and at the same time extremely fearsome (vikaraal) too. She has given to us the life force (jeevan) as well as innumerable energies-resources useful for life, however, she is fearsome and dreadful (vikaraal) with respect to her disciplines. For fulfilling her goals she is equipped with several hands, faces and weapons. These symbols lead to the confluence of appropriate thoughts, actions and resources in accordance with the saadhanaa. She wears garland of human skulls. She needs penance (tap) that involves immense sweating (extreme labor), converting each and every drop of blood into energy (strength) for achieving the goal. She needs the removal of saadhak’s ego. She is not satisfied by anything less than this. Unless she is satisfied, how can one achieve her special boons?

The Divine Energy is our (human) nature; depending on the kind of work we want to take from it, we have to enlighten it up to the appropriate level. For that it has its own demands and restrictions. Fire is a form of Energy. Depending on the kind of work we want to take from it, accordingly appropriate arrangements have to be made. If potato or egg-plant have to be baked, then a fuel like husk is also fine; however, if iron is to be heated and melted, then some other fuel of appropriate capability is required. If food is to be cooked by steam then a simple pressure-cooker is sufficient; however, if heavy engine or turbine is to be moved, then we need boilers that can bear high temperature and pressure. Unless appropriate forms of energy are used, though we might see something happening, the desired goal

entire country is intoxicated in the pretentious worship of the Divine Energy, and is becoming devoid of strength (bal-heen), righteous actions (dharma-heen), righteous knowledge (vidyaa-heen), wealth, food grain and self-esteem. The fault lies in neglecting the right process of worship and saadhanaa.”

He gives an example as:- “To become an expert in Chemistry if someone prays three times a day (tri-sandhyaa), takes bath, takes food after offering it to the sacrificial fire (havishyaanna bhojan) and chants beej (root) mantra in some isolated place, then how can he expect positive results (i.e. becoming an expert in Chemistry)? His prayer of the desired form of Energy (ishta shakti) is incomplete (anga-heen). For retaliating against an epidemic if someone does not pay proper attention to external cleanliness, does not control food habits, and just sings loud prayers and songs praising God (hari keertan), then his endeavor is what other than madness? There is sheer lack of proper instruments in his worship of the desired goal (ishta poojaa). … etc.”

Opposite to this, in the success of the West he sees a comparatively better use of the prayer of the Divine Energy (shakti saadhanaa), and says:-“Europe! You are giving each and every drop of blood of your heart and strength worthy of vigorous people (kshaatra-shakti). This arduous penance itself has made you successful and proud. America! Besides the above two energies, you are making efforts for harnessing shoodra-shakti(strength of the labor class) also, therefore, your country is progressing very fast.”

However, this endeavor and saadhanaa of theirs is also not holistic because the simultaneous saadhanaa of the Brahm-Shakti (Divine Energy associated with the Omnipresent Consciousness –Brahm) is also necessary, which is capable of making the above Energies full of compassion and righteous intentions (sadaashayataa). That is why, the pious revival of the saadhanaa of Eternal Brahm-Shakti was done through ThakurRamkrishna Paramhans, Vedmoorti TaponishthaPandit Shriram Sharma. India will have to play a special role in applying and publicizing it. Therefore, Yug Nirman Pariwar (Movement for

applying each and every particle of the available talents, in the fire of the new creation, must be visible. Revered Gurudev has very clearly said, “Reverence (Shraddhaa) is to be converted into activeness (sakriyataa).” All the talents of life follow reverence. Every talent and specialty of every saadhak of the Era must be enlightened by the fire of new creation. There should be dedicated efforts for the confluence of such talents, to create a powerful torch of fire comprising the fires of these talents. If every saadhak takes up NavaratriSaadhanaa with such pledges then the favorable situation for satisfying the Divine Energy of the Era can be created.

will not be achieved. In symbolic language we can say it like this that Energy vigorously demands satisfaction. Whoever satisfies its demand, gets the desired benefits.

We have to satisfy the Mother, the Eternal Divine Energy – The Energy of the Era. When the principles and formulae (sootra) given by Yug-Rishi (Saint of the Era – Pandit Shriram Sharma), and his visible and subtle aspects of life are clear in front of us, then we should not have any special difficulty in acquiring the distinctive energies, which are needed for satisfying the Energy of the Era and thus fulfilling the demands of this Era. Our Navaratri Saadhanaa should be for accepting new challenges and becoming capable and accountable for reaching the desired goal, and not just for fulfilling the old ways.

The Divine Energy of the Era (Yug-Shakti) is incarnating for the creation of the New-Era. Sufficient development of the Material Energy has been done for the development of science and technology, medical treatment, business, transportation, etc., and this process is progressing further. The need is to strengthen the Mental and Spiritual streams of Energy so much that the substances created by Material Energy can be controlled and used for righteous motives; it can become capable of resolving undesired tendencies and strengthening and activating desired tendencies. The production by the Power House is sufficient, however, a circuit is needed to take the produced power in the desired direction and apply it in the desired purposes.

We have to become the means. Divine Energy of the Era (Yug-Shakti) first takes an exam. Who has purified-strengthened his devotion up to what level? If devotion is there, then lively endeavors of

True PrayerTrue prayer is less about asking and begging

for things we are attached to than it is about relinquishing our attachments to things, persons and possessions. We, in essence, being the sparks of the Divine Effulgence, ought to pray for illumination of our inner selves with the sublime glow of divinity –– no storm of hardship or turbulence of ups and downs of life could ever quaver the flame of our faith in our divine origin as souls. “…. ‘O’ Lord! Please bless us with courage and wisdom so that we could welcome adversities as opportunities to refine our qualities and strengthen our potentials. Today’s blows of adversities should sound as messages of a brighter tomorrow….” –– This would be an ideal prayer to elevate our zeal and optimism and would protect us from becoming weak or coward. We have to become intrepid warriors of the Spirit and not frightened fugitives in the battlefield of life. Our attitude while praying should not be of begging but of ‘offering’ – “Lord, I am here, use me”. – Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya

most important purpose of the celebration is that the Asian communities of Long Island can get together and share their cultural values.

Gayatri Pariwar of Long Island, representing India, had set up a small exhibition showing Yoga, Pranayam and portrayals of divine cultural values of India. Information regarding Dev SanskritiVishwa Vidyalaya, a university of the stature of Nalanda and Taxshila being built at Haridwar, India was shared in this exhibition.

In addition to above, a small film was also shown on a large screen using Multimedia, illustrating various cultural programs conducted by All World Gayatri Pariwar at Haridwar, India.

Also cassettes showing Indian Yoga and Pranayam were shown on the stall continuously. While talking to individuals from the neighborhood seeing the exhibition, we got surprised that many of them knew Gayatri Mantra and power of Gayatri Mantra. Moreover, they were keen to know more about Gayatri Mantra. One Yoga teacher, while visiting the GayatriPariwar stall, showed very much eagerness to know about Indian spirituality. Moreover, along with that the Yoga teacher had also agreed to show Yoga demonstration to children participating in the Sanskar Kendra managed by Gayatri Pariwarof Long Island.

The active volunteers of Gayatri Pariwar of Long Island worked very diligently for this celebration. Gayatri Pariwar of Long Island manages Sanskar Kendra for children. In this Sanskar Kendra, we are teaching children of the age group of 5 years to 16 years - Indian Culture, Yoga, Meditation, Art of Living, Hindi and Gujarati. At present we have 40 children benefiting from this Sanskar Kendra. In addition, the coming semester will be starting from September 2007. In that semester we are expecting 80 to 100 children getting admission. Please contact Pravin Kapadia at 631-254-2749 or visit www.gayatripariwarli.org for more information regarding the Sanskar Kendra.

Embrace High IdealsAchieve Excellence

(Source: http://www.akhandjyoti.org/?Akhand-Jyoti/2007/Jan-Feb2007/High-Ideals-Excellence/)In the present age, there is the pious ideal of Yugrishi Param Poojya Gurudev before us all. His sparkling

tapasvi life, the supremely high level of jivana sadhana, the spirit of sacrifice for the country, and the dharma (law of righteousness) could easily be the ideal for anybody, and it has indeed been so.

Uardhvo nah pahyamhaso ni ketuna, visvam samatrinam dah, Krdhi na urdhvancharathsya jivase, vida devesu no duvah.- Rigveda 1/36/14

Meaning: O Fire-God! You are the most exalted. Save us from sinning by the light of knowledge. Burn to ashes all our selfishness. Endow us with excellence for progress and happy life. Make us worthy of honour by the gods.

If we want to strive for excellence, we will have to embrace high ideals, because without noble ideals in life there can be no jivana sadhana at all. Without ideals, life becomes a meaningless meandering. What is the best course of life? How to walk this course? These questions in the mind remain in futile wait for an answer. The nagging feeling of not having realized one’s potential, not having used one’s capacity to the full always torments. The confused and troubled life drags on somehow but there is no joy in it, no sense of contentment.

To experience the joy of living, presence of an ideal is essential in life. This ideal could be anything – a pious thought, pious emotion or some pious and exalted personality. All the three are equally effective. Any of these can be chosen in accordance with one’s aim in life, mentality, taste and circumstances. But whatever be the selection, one must have the courage to efface oneself at this altar. Without dissolving one’s emotions, thoughts, mind and every breadth into it, the ideal does not become forceful.

Those in whose lives inspirations arose, sensibilities grew and blessings poured had all merged their entire beings in their ideals, albeit in varying ways. Mahatma Gandhi, for example, had chosen Srimadbhagvad Gita as his ideal and would call it Gita Mata (Mother Gita). Vinoba Bhave called it Gitai. The noble and profound thoughts of the Gita were the guiding principles of both great men. The path of their lives was niskama karma (selfless action) which they had named anasakti yoga (yoga sans attachment). Their love for the Gita was so deep that they used to say: “As a mother nourishes her child with her milk, so do I receive nourishment from the thought feeding by Gita Mata. Whenever I am in a fix, the Gita Mata comes to my aid and shows me the right way”.

For Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh, love for the nation had become the supreme ideal. They had merged all their feelings and thoughts, and every breadth of life in it. Mother India was everything for them, the raison d’etre of their existence. They lived for Mother India, fought every moment for Her, and died for Her. By making this pious emotion their ideal, Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad could make their lives meaningful, contented and great. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Calling all youth members to join All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP) Youth Group yahoogroup (awgpyg). Heart and TongueA student asked his teacher: “Who are the two

angels who nurture life”? “Heart and tongue”, was the reply. The next question was: “Who are the two demons who destroy life”? “Heart and tongue”, was the reply again.

The cruelty and tenderness of heart makes a person mean or great respectively. Non-control over tongue leads to loss of health and friendship. Sweet and amiable speech, on the other hand, begets ample love and affection of the multitudes.
