2011 HUNGER WALK AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Annual Conference reported that 29 churches participated in the Hunger Walk in Redlands on June 18 and raised a total of $5,906.46. Hawaii Dist: 5 churches - $2074.4 Long Beach Dist: 2 churches - $425.00 Pasadena Dist: 13 Churches - $1831.00 San Diego Dist: 5 churches - $722.00 Santa Ana Dist: 2 churches - 449.00 Santa Barbara Dist: 2 churches -$405.00 A few individuals came to the Hunger Booth and made a donation. We credited their churches, which are included in the 29. Other churches walked in their own communities and sent the funds they raised directly to the Conference Treasurer, earmarked Hunger Walk. Thank you, everyone! Now, the Hunger Walk is the compassion side of the min-istry with hungry people. The justice side would be an Of-fering of Letters with Bread For the World (BFW). We invite you to come together in a group and write letters to your Senators and Members of the U.S. House of Repre-sentatives. Urge them to put into law the Administration's Global Development Policy. Collect the letters and offer them up to God, praying that the Holy Spirit would inspire Congress to vote for this new foreign policy. Send the let-ters to the local offices of Senators and Representa-tives. The key component of a revised foreign policy would direct foreign aid to first fight poverty and hunger, corresponding with the views and expressed needs of re-cipient communities. For more information, visit www.bread.com or call or email David Gist, BFW Regional Director in Pasadena: 626-568-3233 or email: [email protected].

A Poem For Doris by Roland Roy

Her eyes have seen so much, not through years,

but by that look she has, that she has conquered

obstacles far beyond most, How?

It’s in her heart and in her art. Beauty comes in all shapes, and proves to be a very serous business.

Her art appeases me because of it’s substance. It talks.

To appreciate art of magnitude, you must follow it’s emotional

journey, with profound footsteps. I look beyond the art piece. What makes it work and by whom. The art must predict it’s maker, and Doris has

accomplished that. Art should drive you forward, hang on to it’s wings and immerse you in its story and your glory. After all, the journey is what it’s all about. Isn’t it Doris?

For that, here is my first book, and always think of me.

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN

August is Heifer International month in Sunday School! We will be focusing in class on the work of Heifer International and how they 'pass on the gift' of Christ's love through dona-tions of animals to the needy around the world. Look for Heifer offering containers to be sent home with the children, to be kept at home for collection of coins through the month of August! Questions about the program? Check out Heifer’s website at www.heifer.org, or contact Janice Kakazu, 499-2773, or [email protected]

Opportunities to be the owner of the quilt are $5 for one opportunity or $20 for 5 opportunities. The
